Quinlan Ford Alumna Stormy McBride ā€˜16 Awarded Inaugural $1,000 Alumni Alliance Scholarship - Soon to be a Registered Nurse!

QUINLAN, TX – The QISD Alumni Alliance is proud to announce the final recipient of its first annual scholarship program, awarded to a deserving student who graduated from Quinlan Ford High School in 2016, Stormy McBride. Alumni scholarships are designed to support alumni and former students of the next generation in their chosen field. Stormy McBride is expanding her credentials to advance in her profession as a healthcare professional and acknowledging her dedication to the field.

ā€œWe are so proud to support Stormy as she recently received her LVN, works full-time, and is now pursuing her RN license,ā€ said Rebeka Smith Eckert of the QISD Alumni Alliance. This scholarship is one of the primary missions of the Alliance's approach to investing in the community, providing alumni with a resource for help to further their careers after graduation. Stormy McBride stood out for a variety of reasons in her application, including:
*** Wanting to "pay it forward" and use her degree to work in the community that helped raise her.
*** Becoming a bone marrow donor demonstrates her genuine care for helping others.
*** Balancing a full-time job, family, and life's demands while attending school demonstrates incredible dedication, a strong work ethic, and a sense of responsibility.
*** Volunteerism with her church and helping at the local food bank demonstrate that she is already living a life of service and giving back to those in need.

Congratulations to Stormy McBride. We are incredibly proud of you and your ability to help you move towards becoming an RN and growing your family.

Quinlan ISD Alumni Alliance Names Fourth Scholarship Recipient: Earnest (Liam) Upchurch III to Pursue Medical Degree

QUINLAN, TX – The Quinlan ISD Alumni Alliance, a dedicated partner organization of the Quinlan Independent School District (QISD), is proud to announce Earnest "Liam" Upchurch III as the fourth of its first five inaugural scholarship recipients. Upchurch, who began his medical studies at Ross University School of Medicine, has set an ambitious goal to become a board-certified Anesthesiologist by 2033, with a clear intention to return home to practice medicine in Texas.

"Once graduated, board-certified, and a practicing doctor, I plan on returning to the area to practice locally and aid in the further development of our community," Upchurch stated. "It is my hope that our community will once again put their faith in me to become a successful doctor."

Upchurch's scholarship application highlighted a long history of giving back to the Quinlan community, most notably through his service with the Quinlan Panther Band. He dedicated many hours working directly with Mr. Marty Filip and the musical directors to establish and run the lighting shows for the marching band's halftime "Bluebell/Light performance." During his high school years, his technical acumen earned him the "Best Techie in Show" award twice for UIL performances, and he was elected three times by his peers to the Panther Band's Leadership program.

His academic journey, which began at QISD, led him to successfully earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry from East Texas A&M University-Commerce. During his undergraduate career, he was named to the Dean's List for academic achievement.

Upchurch acknowledged the financial challenges of higher education, noting that his success was achieved through a combination of a private computer scholarship (Derrick’s Computer Scholarship) from a caring Quinlan family, federal loans (FAFSA), and maintaining a demanding work schedule of over 30 hours per week at local animal hospitals and a retail job.

Upchurch shared, expressing gratitude for the support he has already received. "I plan to give back to the community through excellent patient care and an outstanding work ethic to provide a critical service to our townspeople in need, when they may be most vulnerable."

Liam’s longstanding service to the Quinlan and Lake Tawakoni area is deep-rooted in his family heritage, and their love for Quinlan schools and the overall well-being of the area has been evident for generations. Giving back to the community is part of what my grandparents began long ago with my entire family, and I will continue to do the same, God-willing, if I get to come home and practice in the area,ā€ said Upchurch.

The Quinlan ISD Alumni Alliance is committed to fostering continuing educational opportunities for QISD graduates. The scholarship awarded to Earnest (Liam) Upchurch III is a testament to the Alliance’s mission to support alumni who embody the spirit of service and ambition for their hometown.

QISD Support Staff Member Jerry North receives one of the First Five Alumni Alliance Scholarships Ever Awarded - The Alliance is a Partner to Quinlan Independent School District!

QUINLAN, TX – The Quinlan ISD Alumni Alliance is proud to announce that Jerry North, a dedicated paraprofessional and lifelong member of the Quinlan community, has been awarded a scholarship to continue his education and earn his full teaching certification.

As a proud native of Quinlan, Jerry's roots are in the same school district that the Alumni Alliance serves. This isn't just a scholarship for him; it's an investment in a hometown hero who is coming back to give back. Jerry isn't just pursuing a degree for the sake of getting a degree. He is earning his certification with the specific goal of teaching and developing the Audio/Video and photography programs at the middle or high school level. He currently serves in this capacity at Thompson Middle School. This shows a clear and thoughtful plan to contribute in a tangible way.

As a valued support staff member in QISD, Jerry embodies a positive impact as a paraprofessional. His desire to brighten students' days and support them shows his character and his commitment to the well-being of the students he serves. Juggling a full-time job at Quinlan ISD with college courses presents a significant financial challenge. His hard work and sacrifice demonstrate his determination and a deep desire to achieve his goals. This kind of perseverance makes him a role model for the students he serves.

His role as Alumni Alliance Vice-President and his honor as "Paraprofessional of the Year" demonstrate that he is already a highly respected and active member of both the school and the broader community, worthy of emulation.

ā€œOverall, Jerry's passion for giving back to Quinlan, his concrete plans for his future classroom, and his track record of hard work and service make him an exceptional choice for a scholarship from the Alumni Alliance. He truly represents the kind of individual the organization wants to support,ā€ said Rebeka Ecket, scholarship committee chair.

QISD Alumnus Daxton Osment Makes History as Dual Recipient of Alumni Alliance Grant and Scholarship - The Alliance is a Partner to Quinlan Independent School District!

QUINLAN, TX – The Quinlan ISD Alumni Alliance is proud to announce that Quinlan Ford High School graduate Daxton Osment has been named one of the first recipients of both a $500 grant and a $1,000 scholarship from the newly established QISD Alumni Alliance program. Osment's dual award recognizes his entrepreneurial spirit and his academic excellence.

What began in high school, and continuing into college, Osment earned his real estate license, which he believes demonstrates his dedication to his professional and educational goals. The grant helped to reimburse his mandatory realtor MLS fees to become a realtor with Regal Realtors in Rockwall. The reimbursement of those fees will be directly utilized to help fund the growth of Osment’s local business, Osment Lawn and Landscapes. What started as a one-man operation has quickly grown, and the grant will allow him to purchase a zero-turn mower to keep up with the increasing demand. "The work has been piling up, and this new mower is a game-changer," said Osment. "It will allow me to be more efficient, so I can continue to grow my small lawn and landscaping business right here in my community."

In addition to the grant, Osment was awarded a scholarship to help with tuition as he enters his sophomore year at Texas A&M University, where he is studying Finance. The scholarship will help alleviate financial stress and allow him to continue his education without the burden of student loans.

Osment’s resilience and dedication to his community were key factors in his selection. Having faced significant financial hardships while growing up, Osment learned to value hard work and every dollar. This experience fueled his passion for helping others. Last year, he established the Evie Harper Anderson Scholarship in honor of his late aunt, personally contributing $500 to support a Quinlan graduate in pursuing their educational goals. He has also dedicated over 150 hours of community service to local organizations, including the Lake Area Shared Ministries Food Pantry.

Osment’s inspiring journey and commitment to his community and Quinlan ISD perfectly embody the values the QISD Alumni Alliance was created to support.

Class of 2001's Christopher Maynor Wins One of the First Five Alumni Alliance Scholarships: Huge Congratulations in Order!

The Quinlan ISD Alumni Alliance is proud to announce the success of its inaugural founding donor campaign this past year. With 174 memorial spaces purchased, the campaign exceeded expectations, securing the construction of a permanent "Donor Wall" to be unveiled on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Ford High School.

Due to the campaign's tremendous success, the Alliance board moved to open applications for scholarships and grants immediately. Following a rigorous and objective review process, the Alliance is honored to announce one of its first-ever scholarship winners: Christopher Maynor, a proud 2001 graduate of Quinlan Ford High School. He will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Christopher's journey is a testament to the values of service and community instilled in him while growing up in Quinlan. As he describes it, the town was a place where "neighbors supported one another, and a sense of shared responsibility thrived, even in times of scarce resources." This deep-rooted foundation has guided his life, from serving in the United States Marine Corps to his current academic pursuits and subsequent return to college.

At 40, Christopher returned to higher education and is currently pursuing a Master's degree at Stephen F. Austin State University. His dedication is fueled by a clear mission: to make a meaningful impact by creating innovative mental health programs for veterans and rural populations. He plans to continue his studies in a Ph.D. program for School and Health Psychology, with the long-term goal of integrating clinical work, research, and outreach.

For Christopher, receiving this scholarship is a significant honor. In his own words, ā€œIt would not only alleviate financial pressures but also allow me to dedicate more of my energy to my studies and community outreach. I am not just pursuing a degree; I am preparing to give back to the very type of communities that shaped me, including the Quinlan and Lake Tawakoni area, and the QISD Alumni Alliance. My mission is to turn my lived experiences into lasting change."
