Did you know that Bart Township Fire Company started the first Mud Sale back in 1964? A Lancaster County tradition started right here in Georgetown!

Our Mud Sale continued to grow after the early years of holding only one sale, and now we host two Mud Sales every year- a general consignment sale on the first Saturday of March, and a Building Materials sale on the third Saturday of March.

These events are truly a community effort with hundreds of people volunteering and thousands attending.

These two events contribute a large portion of the funds for our annual operating budget, so we thank everyone for supporting our volunteer fire company!

Engine 51-2 and crew traveled to Columbia today to attend the Columbia Borough Fireman's Parade to celebrate the local fire service in conjunction with the 300th anniversary of Columbia Borough.

Fire apparatus from multiple counties attended the parade, and units were judged on their appearance based on classification of the apparatus, such as engine, rescue, truck, etc.

We are pleased to announce that Engine 51-2 won the following awards:

🏆 Best Appearing Engine (1st Place Award)

🏆 Judge's Award for Best Overall Appearing Apparatus

Engine 51-2 is now 11 years old, so winning these awards are a testament to the dedication of the BTFC volunteers to keep our apparatus in pristine condition. Preparation of Engine 51-2 for the parade included the following:

🔥Polishing all diamond plate/stainless steel
🔥Cleaning all tools and equipment
🔥Cleaning all compartments and cab
🔥Cleaning of the undercarriage and frame
🔥Waxing the entire engine

A special thanks goes out to driver Ed Weidman who spent countless hours over the last few weeks cleaning and detailing Engine 51-2, and to all of the others who helped to get it ready.

🚨Tanker 51 Refurbishment Update🚨

Tanker 51 has now been at Glick Fire Equipment Company for a little over two months, and they are making steady progress on the refurbishment project.

As you can see in the pictures, the chassis has been stripped down to only the cab and rear body remaining on the frame. The tank has been removed so work can be done on the frame and inside the rear body.

Other pictures show that some of the body panels that were removed early in the process have already been repainted, and the hood has a fresh coat of white paint before the red is repainted.

The tanker looks pretty rough right now compared to what we are used to it looking like, but we can't wait to see the finished product!

Bart Township Fire Company serves a large geographical area of southeastern Lancaster County, with a high percentage of the population being Amish. Unlike the public school system, Amish schools have small schools scattered throughout the area to serve a smaller amount of children, usually somewhere around 30 scholars per school.

In BTFC's coverage area, there are approximately 30 Amish schools. With this many schools, providing fire prevention programs and information to all of the students in our coverage area can be difficult to accomplish.

Over the past two days, BTFC provided a Fire Prevention and Safety program at our station for the Amish Schools to attend. BTFC coordinated a charter bus to go around to the schools and transport the scholars, as well as parents and teachers, to BTFC for the program. During the program, the scholars got to see our apparatus and the tools we carry, try on firefighter coats and helmets, spray water from a fire hose and learn about fire prevention and safety.

23 Amish schools from our coverage area were able to attend the program over the last two days. This total included 642 scholars, and 98 teachers or parents for a total of 740 people who had the opportunity to learn more about BTFC, fire safety and have some fun!

Thanks to all of our dedicated volunteers who contributed numerous hours of planning and preparation leading up to this event, as well as over the last two days during the program. Thanks also to the local businesses who covered the expense of the charter bus!

The best fire prevention is public education!

On Wednesday evening, April 1st, an unusual Easter egg hunt took place at Bart Township Fire Company. With a potential for rain, we decided to hold the hunt indoors. The children grabbed eggs, eager to see what was inside, adults entered raffles, and everyone enjoyed refreshments in the banquet hall afterwards.

At 5:13 Tuesday evening, BTFC was dispatched to assist the Quarryville Fire Company with a reported barn fire in the 600 block of Pumping Station Road in Colerain Township. First arriving units arrived and confirmed a barn fully involved in fire and began fire attack.

Engine 51-2 arrived soon after Engine 57-4 and Tower 57, and worked to contain the brush fire that was spreading away from the barn and assisted with various other fire ground operations after that. Tanker 51 (Woody) arrived and assisted Tanker 57 with setting up the nurse tanker setup at the end of the 1200' long driveway, and then hauled multiple loads of water to the scene. Squad 51's crew assisted in the manpower pool, and BTFC firepolice assisted with traffic control.

Engine 51-2 remained on the scene assisting with overhaul and cleanup and Tanker 51 continued hauling water before clearing the scene around 9pm.

The 36th annual Building Material, Shrubbery, and Select Book auction is winding down. After the morning fog burned off, it was a beautiful spring day. We’d like to thank everyone who came out today - funds from these sales help us continue to serve the community.
