This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the heroes whose lives and sacrifices continue to inspire the mission of Semper K9.

The service dog candidates featured in this video were named in honor of brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their names live on not only in memory but through the lives changed by the service dogs who carry their legacy forward every day.

This tribute also includes a special “In Loving Memory” roll call honoring members of our military community connected to our organization who have passed away, though not necessarily in combat. Their service, dedication, and impact on those who knew and loved them will never be forgotten.

Behind every name is a story: a family, a sacrifice, and a legacy that deserves to be remembered.

Today, we honor them all.

May we never forget those who gave everything, and may we continue to live in a way worthy of their sacrifice.

As we enter Memorial Day weekend, now is a great opportunity to reflect on what Monday is all about: remembering and honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Here are some ways YOU can honor & remember our fallen heroes this weekend:

🗣Say their names: Speak the names of those who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country. This simple act ensures their legacy is remembered.

📖Tell their stories: Share the stories of the fallen with friends, family, or on social media. Highlight their bravery, service, and the impact they had on those around them.

❤️Show your support: Display the American flag, wear a poppy, or other symbols of remembrance to show your solidarity and respect for those who have served and sacrificed.

🙋Volunteer: Contribute your time to organizations that support veterans and their families, helping to continue the mission of those who served.

💵Make a memorial donation: Honor the fallen by donating to military nonprofits, like Semper K9, that provide valuable services and support to veterans.

⭐️Learn about Gold Star Families: Educate yourself about the families who have lost a loved one in military service. Understanding their sacrifice can foster greater appreciation and empathy.

🥁Participate in events: Attend parades, ceremonies, or other community events dedicated to Memorial Day. These gatherings offer an opportunity to honor and remember the fallen collectively.

At Quantico National Cemetery, every headstone represents a life of service, sacrifice, and love of country. Through Wreaths Across America, you can honor the veterans laid to rest there by sponsoring a wreath for $17.

When you sponsor through Semper K9, $5 from each wreath sponsorship supports our life-saving mission of providing custom-trained service dogs to disabled American veterans at no cost to them.

Your sponsorship honors the lives of veterans resting at Quantico National Cemetery while also helping Semper K9 continue serving disabled American veterans and their families.

Grave-specific requests are also available for families and friends who would like to ensure a wreath is placed at the headstone of their loved one. You may choose to place the wreath yourself during designated Family & Friends placement times, or have one of our volunteers place it on your behalf.

Today, on National Rescue Dog Day, we’re celebrating the incredible rescue dogs who found a second chance and went on to change a veteran’s life forever. 🐾❤️

Many of the dogs in our program started with uncertain beginnings. Now, through training, patience, and purpose, they’ve become loyal service dogs for wounded veterans and their families.

Every rescue dog has the potential to make an impact. These dogs are proof of that every single day. 🇺🇸🐕‍🦺

As we continue highlighting some of the incredible rescue dogs of Semper K9 ahead of National Rescue Dog Day, meet Pete. 🐾

Pete entered our program as a 13-week-old rescue puppy through our rescue partner, Operation Paws for Homes. Today, he carries a name with an incredible legacy behind it.

Pete was named in honor of USAF First Lieutenant Louis “Pete” Via — a WWII veteran who flew 15 combat missions aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress and later dedicated thousands of volunteer hours serving Fairfax County as one of its first Auxiliary Police Officers.

Like his namesake, Pete represents service, loyalty, and dedication. Rescue dogs like Pete remind us that every dog deserves a chance to make an impact. ❤️

Meet Kasal! Kasal is ready to find his forever family!

Born on August 18, 2023, Kasal is a handsome German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix who came to Semper K9 as a service dog in training. While he has decided that service dog work is not his calling, this sweet boy still has so much love, loyalty, and potential to give the right family.

Kasal is neutered, current on all vaccinations, and will go home with a bag of dog food and 12 months of preventative. Liberty K9 is also generously offering additional free* training options to help set Kasal and his new family up for success.

Kasal is an active, outdoorsy dog who loves being outside and would thrive with someone who enjoys adventure. He could make a wonderful hunting companion, hiking buddy, or loyal best friend for someone who wants a dog to share life’s adventures with. After almost a year with us, Kasal has done well with other dogs and has shown us his fun, affectionate personality.

He loves hugs, belly rubs, and being part of the action. Because of his energy and love for the outdoors, we would prefer that Kasal go to a home with a fenced yard where he can safely run, play, and enjoy the fresh air.

Kasal may not have become a service dog, but he is still a very special dog with a big heart and so much to offer. He is looking for someone who will love him for exactly who he is and give him the active, happy life he deserves.
