FoxTales Wildlife Rehab

FoxTales Wildlife Rehab Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Focused on rescuing native wildlife, rehabilitating and releasing.

We take in injured, sick and orphaned native wild mammals and provide daily care to house, feed and treat the animals until they have been rehabilitated successfully. Once animals are well enough they are released back into the wild to live a natural life and be apart of the ecosystem. We educate the public on how to coexist with wildlife that they may find in their backyards. We instruct the publ

ic on how to safely rescue animals that are in need of coming to care and providing them with resources to get the animals the help they need. We work directly with local animal control officers, local animals shelters, local wildlife nuisance companies, Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, Wildlife Center of Virginia, Wildlife Rescue League and local vets that take in wildlife. Our number one goal is to provide the best care that is species specified so that the animals are well enough and have the appropriate skills and behaviors to be able to survive in the wild.

Five dollar Friday!

If you have $5 to spare it will go towards Todd and Amani’s enclosure expansion! We are looking to double the size and height of their enclosure to give them more space to play and run. This is going to cost $5k to do with the caging, shipping and flooring.

Between Facebook and instagram we have 60k followers which means if not even 10% of our followers donated $5 we could have this funded!

Todd and Amani are our permitted resident ambassadors who are not fit to go back into the wild. We are permitted with both the state and USDA to have them as educational animals.

If you are able to help in anyway to give these two more space to run and play it would be appreciated!

We are hoping to expand Todd and Amani’s enclosure to double the size and height but it is going to cost a pretty penny to give them this extra space. We really want to give them the height and most places only sell cages that are 6ft in height and having it built with wood isn’t the best option either as wood tends to degrade over time.

If you are able to help in anyway to give these two more space to run and play it would be appreciated!

Too cute Tuesday!

Our baby skunks in care have found their voice and wanted to share with the world what a little skunk sounds like. Skunks are for the most part one of the quieter animals that come into care but they still have some of the most unique sounds.

We got our first bat of the year! We don’t take many bats here at FoxTales we usually get a handful of them. The reason we don’t take in many bats is just because of time restraints, we only take in older juveniles or adults. We do love bats though and love to help if we are the closest option and available!

We admitted our 300th intake today, with over 70 animals currently in care. Here are two of the intakes accepted today. One of sibling skunks from the other day and a mangy little fox kit.

Majority of the animals in our care currently will be with us until September when we start our releases. Our ability to accept any more animals will be very limited due to outdoor enclosures that are species specific and have occupancy limits. We do apologize if we have to turn anyone away but we will try to help find alternative sources.

Our animals in care are starting to cost us a lot of money in food expenses daily. We could use donations of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables as well as grocery store gift cards.

For meat donations we are looking for game meat such as; venison, elk, duck, rabbit and quail. We also will take beef and chicken. Freezer burnt or expired is fine as long as it’s stayed frozen. ****WE CANNOT TAKE; pork, whole turkeys and seasoned meat.****

I think everyone needs to take a moment and appreciate just how adorable baby skunks are! Does it get any cuter than these little stinkers?

Today 30 min into the start of my routine I threw my back out and I could not be more grateful for my volunteers! Unfortunately I have no one to call out to and would have to just push through but having help from my amazing care providers is amazing. They are a great team and I am thankful everyday for their help and support! Today Kelly was a superstar in my eyes!

Today has been filled with babies coming in with fly strike and maggots covering their bodies. This time of year with the heat and humidity makes it the perfect weather for flies to wreak havoc on animals with injuries, illnesses or just weak and orphaned with no one to keep them groomed and safe. Getting the animals into care quickly is essential! I did say I was at capacity for raccoons but as soon as I saw the photo of how bad their condition was, I knew I couldn’t let these babies suffer. I will either find room or find another rehabber who has space once they are more stable. Their condition is still very guarded but they are clean, dry, warm and safe!

7 skunks in one day, although we are still trying to capture 2 more from one of the litters that are confirmed orphaned but living under a house. Fingers crossed we are able to get them to join their siblings in care in the next day.

One of the litters in care is also in bad shape although have improved immensely since this morning but are still not out of the woods yet.

We are full for the season for raccoons. We have no more space in our enclosures to accommodate any more raccoons. Please try to reunite babies with mom and don’t trap and relocate a mom. Always use ways to get mom to evacuate a space on her own with her babies.

Foxes are built for speed and can reach up to 42 mph. They have long legs and slender build that makes them great at being able to catch prey or escape predators. To help build up their endurance we always add these wheels and they absolutely love running on them. The video was over 12 minutes long of them fighting over who got to run on the wheel and often times you can see them running tandem.
