Putney Foodshelf The Putney Foodshelf provides supplemental healthy food for area people in need. All are welcome! Fresh produce and some non perishables available.

Currently open Fridays from 1:30-3:30 and Saturdays 9–10:30 am at the Community Center on Christian Square in Putney, Vermont. We are always open during our open hours, even during inclement weather or on holidays. You do not need to be a Putney resident to shop, nor do you have to fill out any identifying paperwork except for a brief questionnaire (zip code, number of people in household). Prior

to COVID-19, we had food demonstrations featuring fresh vegetables. We showed how to prepare and cook an easy, healthy recipe and have the produce and recipes on hand for shoppers to take home and cook themselves. Look for Facebook announcements when we can resume this program. We also run an in-school food shelf at Putney Central School called Food4Kids. It's free and open to all students; in 2019-2020 about 70% of students shopped during the year. In conjunction with the Vermont Foodbank, we run a Food Drop the 4th Thursday of every month at Putney Meadows. Currently a curbside service.

The Putney Food Shelf is truly something special 💛

In just 5 hours a week, this incredible team of volunteers serves 185 households — a powerful testament to what community care looks like in action. With a full volunteer force, every shift runs on generosity, kindness, and commitment. And when neighbors come to pick up food, they’re welcomed into a warm waiting room filled with treats and a genuinely hospitable vibe. It’s not just about food — it’s about connection and care.

Their Food4Kids program is remarkable, bringing the food shelf to the school weekly so that food is accessible and there is no stigma.

Oh — and yes, they even have a payphone! ☎️ A little touch of nostalgia in a place that’s very much about showing up for each other in the present.

Grateful for the volunteers and supporters who make this all possible. Putney is lucky to have you.
