As of yesterday, March 7, Krzyzowa has welcomed some 100 guests who have had to flee their home country of Ukraine. The youngest is now 8 days old.

It's fewer than 400 miles from the crowded border crossing in Medyka to Krzyzowa, where the first refugees have arrived and are being welcomed. Again a westward trek, again fleeing an advancing Russian army, again Krzyzowa/Kreisau opens its doors. The geopolitics are not the same as in 1945, to be sure, but the humanitarian crises echo through history.

For the foreseeable future, the single focus of the KKF, and of this page, will be to help the people on the ground in Krzyzowa to provide for as many refugees as they can accommodate, to feed them, clothe them, allow them to maintain their dignity.

Krzyzowa has opened its doors to refugees from Ukraine. They need our help.

С кожним днем війни загострюється гуманітарна криза у Східній Європі. Тисячі людей втрачають свої дома, розлучаються зі своїми близькими та бігуть у сусідні країни, щоб врятувати своє життя. Громадяни і громадянки України потребують в першу чергу житло. Ми у Крейзау останні дні інтенсивно працювали, щоб забезпечити біженців війни житлом.

За домовою з нижньосілезьким воєводою і місцевим урядом фонд з цього моменту надає житло для біженців з України. Ми приготували повністю мебльовані кімнати з ванною і доступом до кухні. Для сімей, крім того, підготовано спеціальне приміщення для дітей з іграшками та навчальними матеріалами. Дитячий садок відкриває свої двері для маленьких, а для старших дітей і підлітків ми підготували пропозиції з догляду та освіти.

The Krzyzowa/Kreisau Foundation is a Vermont non-profit founded in the 1990s. Its single goal is to support the Polish charity "Krzyzowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding" (www.krzyzowa.org.pl/en). The KFMU has a long track record of bringing together young people of Eastern and Western Europe at their campus in Krzyzowa, fostering a sense of cooperation and democracy on a site historically linked to resistance against totalitarianism.
