JUNE’S PICK FOR REA3D BOOK CLUB! 📚

Reading is one of the best ways to pursue lifelong learning. That’s why we’re taking a moment at the beginning of each month to spotlight a book recommended by a community member in the Proctor School District. You can check out all book club selections to date at https://rea3d.org/bookclub/

This month’s book recommendation comes from Christy Strohm. She recommends "Theo of Golden" by Allen Levi. Christy says, “This book quickly became one of my favorites. I loved it so much that as I got close to the end, I actually slowed down just to stay in the story a little longer. I even went back a couple of chapters because I wasn’t ready to let the storyline go.” She shares, “'Theo of Golden' is about a quiet mysterious stranger who arrives in a small town and begins a simple act of anonymous kindness. What unfolds is a beautiful ripple effect of connection, healing, and reflection on what it means to really see one another. It kinda made me think about towns like Proctor where people cross paths every day but we oftentimes don't know each other’s stories. If you’re looking for a meaningful read (or if you prefer to listen- the narration is excellent), I highly recommend 'Theo of Golden'.”

This month’s book recommendation comes from Sherm Carlson. He recommends "The Boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown. Sherm says, “I had a hard time choosing just one recommendation! But this is a great non-fiction book that reads like a fictional novel. It centers on a rowing team during the 1930s Depression.”

This month’s book recommendation comes from Jim Schwarzbauer. He recommends "The Codebreaker's Daughter" by Amy Lynn Green. Jim says, “The Codebreaker’s Daughter is a spy story about the women who worked behind the scenes to support the US during World War I and World War II. It offers a poignant look at mothers and daughters through their conflicts, communication, commonalities, and differences. Proctor also had many ‘unsung’ female railroad workers during WWII, and this book is a good read to connect back to their ‘role’.”

We were SO excited to purchase a collection of Vox Books (combination print and audio books) for our elementary school learners this past fall! 📖🎧✨

These books provide students developing their reading skills with the ability to listen and read along with the story independently. What books are being purchased for classrooms? Popular titles like "The Good Egg", "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs", and "Once Upon A Book". Happy reading!!

This month’s book recommendation comes from Jenn McDonald. She recommends "The Small and the Mighty" by Sharon McMahon. Jenn says, “Sharon is an author who grew up and lives in Duluth, and is ‘America’s Government Teacher’. I’m also selfishly going to put a plug in for everybody to follow her on all the social media platforms because she sits front, center and on top of the media bias chart for delivering solid, accurate and unbiased news.”
