EarthasArt - Mammatus and cumulonimbus cloud structures over Mesa Verde, Colorado. Panoramic of the receding storm heading to the east. All that moisture bulging in the mammatus zone will dump out there to the E in the Rio Grande drainage later that night. Sangre de Cristos going to get some action!

I love my Flickr Account. It just sits there and has a bunch of my favorite pix for free. Now, they imposed some limits on MBs and so some trimming was necessary to keep on this fine free tier. I understand, I went to work pruning. This is is one of those albums that was trimmed harshly but there were just those that had to remain. Discombobulated and recombobulated.

The Capricornian Andes, home to some of the most unique rock art in the Americas. Pictoglyphs, X-Ray superimposition, realism, bas relief chiseling and deep pecking and scraping into the rhyolitic cliffs.
Phenomenal ancient art and communications.

¡International Archaeology Day!

Ancient stories enrich our modern world. Exploring and examining the successes of our forebears when done respectfully helps to root our individual lives to other ancient individuals who paved the way for today.

A lucky break for our visit to Tikal in Guatemala. The rains arrived! The widespread smoke that had been making for terrible air quality and visibility for weeks was washed away by a cooling downpour the evening before. Rented a HiLux and drove over from Flores and spent the whole day. About 7 miles of walking and 1000 feet of climbing the temple mounts. Steamy!

Exploring Caracol in Belize. An amazing, new, paved two-lane access is under construction and the road leading to the site is very close to completion. The final 27 miles are being paved right now. Only a few bridges and culverts remain to be finished. Up until recently it has always been a rugged, high-clearance and 4x4 adventure to arrive to Caracol. Not anymore!

Don't be fooled by the photos of the awesome sculpture. It's all reproductions in chintzy plaster. Most of the excellent original sculpture is in museums and private collections. There is a museum on site with stelae and altars in a protected open-air shelter.

I was excited to see some Mayan sculpture at Caracol! However, it turned out to be a modern plaster overlay replica. Almost all of the ancient carvings and sculpture were spirited away to museums and collections. Still, these were Beliezable.
