We have been gradually visiting a selection of interesting archaeological sites in Panamá over recent years.
Who knows¿? Maybe we will have a Panamá iteration of our rock art itineraries in the future. Our Southwest US and Sonora Series is certainly a blast!
Notice the intentional scuffing on several of the panels from Chiriquí. I imaging sandpaper or even a power sander was used to remove the dark patina in order to make the elements more visible. This is visible in the extreme at Caldera and the Nancito site shows that the same was done some number of years earlier.
The final two shots in this album show an outcrop and glyphs that have not been retouched, with a sander and have the patina intact. However, even those show evidence of accentuation with white paint.
