On January 29th over 20 Yavapai Chapter members received a tour of the newly opened Verde Valley Archaeology Center by director Ken Zoll and curator Jeff King, who was a founding member of our chapter in 1977. Displays were in the early stages of being finalized but the important display of meteorites associated with Sinagua sites is in the large gallery with a mural by Fil Kewanyama off of that. Several rooms devoted to the amazing D**e Cliff Dwelling will be in place shortly. Behind the scenes, Jeff showed us the state-of-the-art storage facility. We thank the staff of the center for this informative tour and look forward to seeing the completed displays. The center is open Fri-Sun 12 to 4 pm.

At the September chapter meeting, Rich Lange of the Arizona State Museum (retired) gave an introduction to the complex archaeology of the Homol’ovi sites near Winslow, AZ, and then took us the next day to visit the sites in the state park. We also went to the amazing Rock Art Ranch with its abundant archaeology, including amazing rock art panels in Chevlon Canyon.
