For those who asked — Here’s the story of why it’s called Lake Charles, Louisiana:
Lake Charles was named after Charles Sallier, an early French settler who lived on the shores of the lake. According to local legend, he became jealous of the pirate Jean Lafitte and believed his wife Catherine was having an affair with him. In a rage, he s-h-o/t her and thought he had ki- ll- ed her. Overcome with guilt, he fled and was never seen again.
Catherine survived — the bullet hit a brooch she was wearing. After he left, people started calling the lake “Charlie’s Lake” or “Charles’ Lake.” The name stuck, and eventually the town became known as Lake Charles.
