Last night we were contacted about this horse down a ravine, with the vet and animal control in route. Upon the vets arrival we received a visual of the situation and provided assistance by phone with animal control throughout the event. A team was on standby with equipment for responding departments if requested. We are thankful for the successful outcome

***Holly Fork Rd/Ware Creek Wildlife Area***

MISSING HORSE – PLEASE SHARE

On August 10, 2026, this beautiful horse, Izzy, was startled while in the area of the Ware Creek Wildlife Management Area and jumped into the creek. Izzy was last seen swimming toward the mouth of the York River and has not been seen since.

Several extensive searches have been conducted by boat and drone, but unfortunately, there have been no sightings or additional information.

At the time she disappeared, Izzy was wearing a halter with her name and her owner’s phone number on it.

Please keep an eye out, especially if you live, work, boat, or spend time around Ware Creek, the York River, or surrounding areas.

If you see Izzy or have ANY information that may help locate her, please call her owner immediately at 757-570-1829.

What a wonderful idea for kids to read to shelter pets ❤️ Goochland County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center

📚🐾 Calling all young readers!

Did you know you can help shelter animals just by reading a book?

Join us every Thursday from 4:00–6:00 PM for our Read to Shelter Pets program! Children can spend a relaxing 30-minute session reading to one of our dogs or cats in a quiet room. Reading aloud not only helps build confidence and strengthen reading skills, but it also provides comfort, enrichment, and positive socialization for our shelter animals.

✨ Books are provided.
✨ Parents may reserve multiple back-to-back sessions.
✨ Our volunteers will help bring the animals to and from the reading room.

Whether your child is just learning to read or already loves getting lost in a good book, this is a wonderful way to practice while making a shelter pet’s day a little brighter.
