During our recent Farm Day, we welcomed 263 third-grade students from Powhatan County Public Schools! They had the opportunity to experience hands-on learning about agriculture, natural resources, and the important role farming plays in our community. More than 40 volunteers led activities, answered questions, and engaged students to increase their understanding of agriculture and better understand where their food comes from. A few highlights included a walking tour through a 3D soil tunnel, butter making, drones in ag demonstration, heavy equipment and tractors, apple press, worms and compost, bees and of course the animals!

Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Powhatan Office coordinated a dairy day for the public schools for more than 15 years. With the loss of so many Powhatan dairies, we eventually transitioned the program in 2009 into more of a general agriculture event, or Farm Day. Through collaborations with hundreds of volunteers and Powhatan County Public Schools, we’ve been able to bring the farm to the students for the past 17 years.

A big Thank YOU goes out to our event sponsors - Powhatan County Farm Bureau and PTOs from Powhatan, Pocahontas, and Flat Rock elementary schools! In addition, we appreciate the time and effort these businesses, organizations, farmers, and individuals provided to make Farm Day 2026 such a success: Waylon Burns, Farm Bureau/Ag in the Classroom, Headwaters SWCD, Huguenot Beekeepers Association, Goochland-Powhatan Extension Master Gardeners, Tim Kidwell, Land & Coates, Powhatan High School JROTC, Powhatan 4-H Dairy Judging, Powhatan Middle School FFA, Powhatan Nursery Services, Ryann Timberlake, Virginia Dept of Corrections – Agribusiness, Virginia Dept of Forestry, Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, Virginia Cooperative Extension – Powhatan staff and volunteers, and Powhatan County, Virginia Facilities Dept. Without these amazing volunteers, this would not be possible.

If you are a local farmer and would like to get involved next year, please email Cathy Howland, 4-H Extension agent, at [email protected].

🌾 What an Incredible Evening at the Field to Fork Dinner! 🌾

Thank you to everyone who helped make the first Field to Fork Dinner at Twin Oaks Angus/Wagyu Farm such a memorable celebration of local agriculture, local food, and community! The Field to Fork series was created to shine a light on the amazing producers of Powhatan County and bring citizens and visitors to the source of their local food.

A special thank you to our gracious hosts, Jessica and Jason Winall, for opening their beautiful property, and home, and providing the perfect setting for this unique farm-to-table experience.

We are especially grateful to Chef Mike Ledesma and Chef Curtis Brushwood , whose talent and creativity transformed locally sourced ingredients into an exceptional dining experience enjoyed by all. Mady Winall's dirty soda bar "kick-off" was a hit as well!

Thank you to the dedicated servers and volunteers who worked behind the scenes to ensure the evening ran smoothly and made every guest feel welcome.

A special thank you to Cathy Howland and the Powhatan Extension Office for their partnership, support, and commitment to showcasing the incredible agricultural resources found throughout our community. And a thank you to our top sponsors, including Wegmans and Historic Whitewood.

We also extend our appreciation to the members of Powhatan Proudly Produced who contributed fresh, locally grown and produced ingredients, as well as the beautiful flowers that helped make the evening so special.

And finally, thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and joined us for the evening! Your support helps strengthen connections between our farms, producers, businesses, and residents while celebrating the people and products that make Powhatan unique.

We are proud to celebrate local agriculture and look forward to bringing the community together again for future Field to Fork events!

Stay tuned for announcements about upcoming events!
