We packed the Ulster County Legislature meeting last night for the public hearing on the Ulster County Fair Taxes Act, a local resolution to tax the rich 💸

If passed, this would continue to fund essential services being cut by the federal government like SNAP and Medicaid, while lowering the tax burden on low- and middle-income residents.

My name is Desiree, I’m a For the Many member in Newburgh. 👋 Today I’m asking if you’ll help us raise $150K by Monday so we can keep fighting for laws that protect families like mine.

During the pandemic, when the world told us to stay home, my family was fighting to keep ours. I slept in my car with my three small children, praying they would fall asleep before they realized we had no home that night.

We came close to winning that fight in 2023, when we passed rent stabilization in Newburgh—but landlords sued the city and got rent stabilization taken away. Since then, I’ve been organizing with For the Many to stop corporate landlords from bullying our cities out of protecting tenants so we can freeze the rent—not just in Newburgh but across the state.

The money we raise during this week’s fundraising drive will help us win our campaigns, like freezing rent upstate. Will you take 2 minutes and join me in pitching in?
