Gloria Steinem’s 1978 essay, “If Men Could Menstruate,” redefined how women thought of periods and the social hierarchy we’d all been taught to call nature.

Over decades, Gloria trailblazed a new reality for women: how we understood our own power, how we could take up space, how our stories were worth telling in our own words, and how our bodies are sites of power, not shame.

Our world is more equitable because you were in it, Gloria Steinem. Thank you.

We’ll take it from here. ❤️

South Korea’s Ji soyun 🇰🇷 soyun Ji official is one of the most decorated players in women’s soccer. Last week, she asked the referee for a foul call after repeated rough challenges. Over the officials’ radio, the referee allegedly said she’d “been sensitive from the start” and “must be on her period.”
Ji was shown a yellow card for objecting. The referee denied the comment, then admitted it, calling it a “private conversation.”

Ji scored the game-winner in the 74th minute anyway.

This is the oldest move there is: a woman states a problem, and her period is offered as the reason she’s wrong. Not an consideration of her issue - a replacement for it. When you call it hormones, or hysteria, or being sensitive, the complaint stops being something to investigate and becomes something to ignore.

Her period was never the point. “She must be on her period” is how women’s voices get ignored.

STOP the stigma.

250 years ago, Americans revolted over paying taxes to a government that didn’t represent them and didn’t share their lives.

Today, people living in 18 states are still subjected to the tampon tax: taxes written into law by legislatures where menstruators had little to no voice.

A tax on a necessity, decided largely by people it will never impact: sound familiar?

TAG YOUR LEGISLATOR IF YOU LIVE IN ONE OF THESE STATES WITH A TAMPON TAX 🩸

Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Indiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.

This Independence Day, we’re carrying on the tradition. No taxation without menstruation.
