Raphael House of Portland

Raphael House of Portland Listen. Believe. Speak out. An additional 400 survivors receive non-residential advocacy services each year.

Raphael House of Portland is a multi-faceted domestic violence prevention and intervention agency dedicated to fighting the causes and effects of intimate partner violence in a variety of ways. Founded in 1977, we offer emergency shelter in a confidential location, safety planning and advocacy on a 24-hour in-house crisis line, and long-term supportive services through our Home In Hand Housing Pro

gram and Advocacy Center. Nearly 100 families are served in the emergency shelter each year, and over 5,000 callers are offered safety planning and advocacy on our crisis line. Raphael House also works to enact social change and prevent domestic violence by offering free educational workshops to thousands of teens and adults in the Portland area annually. The mission of Raphael House is to provide a foundation of hope for a life free from family violence, and we have been working in this community—offering domestic violence survivors the tools they need to build violence-free lives—for more than 45 years. Raphael House serves a diverse community of women and children escaping domestic violence, and also works to eliminate the causes of family and intimate partner violence through community education and outreach.

TW: homicide and gun violence

Our hearts are with the Sandy community and everyone impacted by Sunday’s devastating shooting stemming from domestic violence.

Jenna Mary Overson, along with her mother Mary Beth Overson, and 16-year-old Kobyn McClure were killed on Sunday by Jenna’s ex partner. A police officer was also seriously injured, but is expected to survive.

Jenna is being remembered as an attentive, loving mother who was full of joy. One friend shared, “Anytime you needed anything from Jenna, she would be there for you. Jenna’s laughter, I mean, she was fun.” You can support Jenna’s 3 young sons via GoFundMe: gofund.me/ee9bd91d2

Loved ones said Kobyn, a high school freshman and family friend, was killed while protecting Jenna’s children. He’s being described as “bold, responsible, and respectful young man” who was known for his cowboy style. You can learn more about Kobyn at tinyurl.com/2wjp8sra and support his family via GoFundMe at gofund.me/76fd6d94c

AntFarm is extending their hours to 7pm tonight to support people grieving in the aftermath of this tragedy, and .I.P. Counseling will be there with support and resources.

We hosted a joyful Mother’s Day celebration for survivor families featuring a potluck, beautiful bouquets assembled by one of our advocates, piñata raffle, card making station, and more!

There was even an impromptu tumbling class with some little ones that was absolutely the cutest. 💜

It’s such a special thing to facilitate celebrations like this for families who are rebuilding their lives after abuse!
