Bound Together Free Tutoring, Mentoring and Healthy Dinners for Pontiac, MI Elementary and Middle School Students

Bound Together, a non-profit tutoring and nutrition program, is celebrating 28 years of creating caring community with children and families who reside in Pontiac, MI. We provide a welcoming environment for students grades 1-8 as we work together on math, phonics and reading comprehension, and all elements of homework support. Committed one-on-one mentoring concentrating on remedial math, phonics and reading comprehension skills. After an hour of working, we gather with our children to share a hot, nutritionally balanced meal and a chance to just be together.

What a week at Bound Together - our first three days were a whirlwind of getting-to-know-you, getting down to work and getting ready for an amazing year. We started Scholastic reading assessments with Ms. Margie and Ms. Kathy, shared "all about us" with our Oakland University pen pals, demolished chicken and waffles at dinnertime - and check out the Entrepreneurship Club from Notre Dame Prep organizing a food drive to keep that dinner bell ringing for us! It takes a village - and ours is bustling.❤

Bound Together's volunteers gathered last week at our annual Volunteer Workshop NIte to hear from our partners at Oakland University, Oakland County ISD and OCHN about new initiatives and best practices that can inform our work with children in the coming program year - as well as meet, greet, have some dinner and build some community amongst a group of people who are, hands down, a gift to our kids and the source of every good thing that we do every day. So it's been a minute since we've posted - but we've been busy getting things ready for an amazing new program year at Bound Together! Our Volunteer Workshop Nite is scheduled for THIS THURSDAY, September 17, from 3:30 - 7:30, with facilitators from Oakland County Health Network, Oakland University and the Oakland ISD to help prepare our tutor corps - so grateful for all of the expertise being brought to bear for our kids. Here comes the sun! DiscoverWorks is into Week 1 - and you can see success and sunshine on each face. This partnership between Bound Together and Sheriff PAL leverages assets, volunteers and more with folks like Matchan Nutrition (thank you for lunches!) - plus strawberry shortcake from Fr. John yesterday! Reading, math, sports, 4-H, Trinity Health - so grateful to Sheriff PAL, United Way and the Ballmer Group for this way to be the difference for a super bunch of kiddos this summer.😎

So glad to support ArtFishFun and meet/greet families with the tutoring, nutrition and enrichment services that Bound Together offers again come September! Thank you to the moms, dads, and grandparents that took a minute in the midst of ice cream and face painting to talk about their achievement goals for their kids - and seeing our friends from Pontiac Library, Oakland County 4-H, OUCARES plus connecting with organizations like Oakland Forward made it the perfect way to spend an early summer afternoon!🍨

The Bound Together Benefit 2026 - what an afternoon! The Crofoot Ballroom pulled out all of the stops, as did The Honorable Mayor Michael McGuinness as our peerless emcee and auctioneer. We had a standing-room-only crowd that chatted, laughed, bid(!), sang along and hopefully enjoyed an event that was, in fact, a celebration of their generosity, kindness, and belief in the power of the caring community that BT creates anew each program year. While FB won't let me write a novel: please know that every one of you who donated, attended, supported, hustled and/or encouraged is written directly onto our hearts. Thanks, so very much, to everyone who says "yes" to our kids.❤

The Pontiac Arts Crawl may be over for now, but the warm memories linger! Sincere thanks to our friends at Pontiac Creative Arts Center who got Bound Together involved, and to Mayor Mike who stopped in to see us each week - just wanted to share some pictures of our mask-making and our affirmations jars! We got to know so many new friends, and we hope that the art created around well-being and emotional health continues to feed kids and adults alike. Working through the United Way/Ballmer Group, Sheriff PAL and Bound Together are partnering to bring a four-week summer camp to Pontiac, with intensive academics in the AM and enrichment activities in the PM from July 6-31.
