Advisory from the Plum Police Dept. Don’t try and pet Yogi!!!

Black Bear Sighting – Resident Advisory

The Plum Borough Police Department would like to advise residents that a black bear has been seen in the area around Leechburg Road (near Shearer Road). While black bears are generally shy and prefer to avoid people, it is important to use caution and take steps to prevent unwanted encounters.

Residents are encouraged to follow these safety tips:

• Never approach, feed, or attempt to photograph the bear at close range.
• Keep a safe distance and allow the bear to move through the area on its own.
• Secure all garbage in bear-resistant containers or keep trash indoors until collection day.
• Remove bird feeders, pet food, and other outdoor food sources that may attract wildlife.
• Keep pets on a leash and supervise them when outside.

If the bear is acting aggressively, appears injured, or poses an immediate threat to public safety, contact 911 immediately.

By taking these simple precautions, we can help keep both our community and the bear safe while allowing it to return to its natural habitat.

Congratulations to Firefighter Trevor Boyles on obtaining his NFPA 1001 Firefighter I certification!

The NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications identifies the minimum requirements for a person at the first level of progression.

Trevor has been with the department for roughly three years and has been completing numerous trainings along the way. Keep up the great work, we appreciate it and so does your community!
