This October, our Volunteer Spotlight shines on Mary Anne Lewis! Mary Anne guides new pet guardians through the adoption process, answers questions, gives tours, takes animal portraits, and loves every moment she spends with the animals. One of her favorite memories comes from an adoption event, where a very shy kitten stayed tucked under a climbing structure and wouldn't come out for anyone. Then one particular adopter walked in, the kitten ran straight to her, and they went home together that day. As Mary Anne says, sometimes a pet picks us!

When she's not volunteering, Mary Anne enjoys biking, reading, traveling, and walking Yuki, her 2-year-old Bernedoodle who keeps the family moving and is convinced she runs the household.

Home to Home Roundup: four pups looking for their next chapter! These sweet dogs are being rehomed straight from their current families through our Home to Home program, so they can go right to their new home.

Charlie (Newark): A Border Collie/German Shepherd puppy who’s smart, very loving, and curious about everything. He’s already house-trained, still working on leash skills, and his favorite part of the day is his evening walk. He’s looking for an active family with time to train him and plenty of chew toys.

Murphy (San Jose): A distinguished 13+ year old Maltese gentleman with plenty of quirks. He eats off the floor (bowls are not his style), he’s wary of hardwood floors, and he’d love to spend his golden years cuddled up with one devoted person or couple. He needs a quiet home with no other pets or kids so he can be the one and only.

Hannah (San Jose): A one-year-old Cane Corso with a big heart. She gets along with big dogs, picks her people carefully, and gives back every bit of love she gets. She’s looking for an experienced adopter who can put in the time and has room on the couch for a large girl.

Female Dachshund (San Diego): A tiny 13-week-old wiener puppy who’s already crate-trained, potty-trained, and up to date on her shots. She’s good with kids and most other animals, and she’s ready for a family to give her a name!

Meet Trike.

When one of our local municipal shelter partners reached out about a young dog with a badly injured back leg, Valley Humane was able to say yes, thanks to generous supporters like you.

Our veterinary team found two fractures and determined that amputation would give Trike the best chance at a healthy, pain-free future. He received the lifesaving surgery he needed right here at our Surgery Center.

Then came the healing, and lots of love. With continued medical care and a dedicated foster family, Trike recovered and thrived. Within days he was eating well, climbing stairs, walking nicely on leash, and proving that three legs would not slow him down.

Our fosters help animals heal, learn what makes them unique, and often introduce them to potential adopters in their own communities. Once Trike was healed up, his foster family brought him to a neighborhood barbecue. That’s where his new family met him, fell in love, and adopted him a few days later. Even sweeter, they’re related to volunteers at our adoption center!

It took so many loving arms to get Trike here: shelter partners, veterinary teams, his foster family, adoption staff, volunteers, and you.

Your support helps Valley Humane say yes when cats and dogs need specialized care. It makes futures like Trike’s possible. Thank you for being part of the community that makes stories like his happen.

Spooky season is here, and Valley Humane Society is opening our doors for the friendliest trick-or-treat in town!

Through October 31, bring a bag of dog treats to our Adoption Center and we’ll thank you with a special Halloween toy for your own dog.

Every bag helps our shelter pups, with rewards for training, enrichment, and all the happy moments that help them shine for their future families.

Come as you are, costumes welcome, pups encouraged. We’re so grateful for neighbors who show up for the animals in our community, and we can’t wait to see you.

Shindig is the life of every swell soiree, old sport, and this Tongue Out Tuesday he’s flashing his finest grin for the whole speakeasy to see. Gatsby threw some fabulous parties, but he never had a guest like this one. (The password is belly rubs.)

This dapper tan 1-year-old is 27 pounds of pure jazz-age pep. He’s outgoing, energetic, and ready to Charleston his way right into your heart. Shindig gets along swell with people, and he once shared a home with a small dog who made a fine dance partner. A canine pal to share the floor with would suit him just fine.
