With our Summer Reading Kickoff Party just over a week away, we've transformed the library into a Jurassic jungle! A few finishing touches may pop up in the next week, but we are pretty much set for a dino-riffic summer here at the library! (Even Edgar and Gary got in the summer spirit and invited a few dino friends to stay to celebrate!)

We are so excited for our Summer Reading Kickoff Party happening next week! This event can be pretty hectic and we want to make sure everyone can enjoy the great comedy-magic performance by Mr. Magico. To streamline everything and alleviate the stress, registration for all July events and summer classes will be online only, starting Friday June 26th at 12pm!

Kids and teens will still sign up for our summer reading program at the party and receive their reading log, in-between being awed by magic and enjoying some dino snacks.

You'll need your library card number to register for events online, so if you've misplaced yours just stop by the library with your ID and we can issue you a new card, absolutely free!

We can't wait to see you at the party!

You know it must be summer when our schedule is jam packed like this upcoming week! Our ever popular Chair Yoga and Pilates classes both meet this week, along with Chess Club! We also have three days where kids can stop by to make a special craft for that special Dad in their life. While we are closed on Friday for Juneteenth, we round out the week with a special harp concert with the Highland Harper Candace Coates to celebrate Midsommer!

We are officially just THREE POUNDS away from our 1000 pound goal for the NexTrex plastic recycling challenge! We will continue collecting plastic through June 30th, so if you have a stash you've been meaning to bring down to us, do it before the end of the month!

Our friends at Pleasant Valley Climate Smart have dedicated an amazing nine months to this cause and we encourage you to keep up the fantastic work! You can continue to recycle your soft, film plastics at Adam's Fairacre Farms or at Tops Supermarket in LaGrange. These stores have always had bins for plastic bag recycling, and we hope that you will utilize their existing systems for recycling once our challenge has completed.

Thank you to everyone who has brought in their plastics and helped us keep 1000 pounds of it out of landfills! And MANY thanks to the PV Climate Smart volunteers who dedicated hours each week to sorting and weighing all of the donations so that we could achieve our goal and earn a NexTrex bench made from recycled plastics!

We've got another great week of programs coming up, where we welcome back some familiar faces! Financial advisor Jeremy Angevine will join us Tuesday evening for a special presentation about how to protect yourself and loved ones from scammers. Musician Alex Prizgintas will perform his "America: Songs of Patriotism, Praise, and Protest" set on Friday evening. And local crafter Grace Burns is back Saturday for a lovely stenciled Welcome sign Crafterday!

Stop in the Library this month to see the beautiful quilts and other fiber arts by local resident Jean Curlee! She has a marvelous assortment of items on display in our Gallery, two of which are also for sale!

Jean has also generously donated a number of smaller handmade, quilted items that will be for sale at our Friends Yard Sale tomorrow! All proceeds benefit the Library.

We are still looking for teen volunteers for the summer! Have your 13 to 17 year old submit an application before July 1st to be considered for summer hours. Volunteers do a variety of tasks such as help run children's programs, shelve books, straighten up the children's room, and participate in events!
