After Joann was killed by a reckless driver we have tried to honor her memory by sponsoring the adoption fees for senior kitties at Tails, where she was a volunteer. Joann was born and raised in Pleasant Valley, IA, daughter to Monica and Randy Weeks. Joann was the youngest of 5 siblings. Joann was born with a passion for animals and nature which is what got her into being a volunteer at animal sh
elters as she got older when she wasn’t busy bringing home all the strays she could find. She was especially fond of cats which lead to her adoption of her beloved Buddha and Benny. Her kind heart was particularly fond of the older/ handicapped cats that needed extra love and attention that a lot of people aren’t able to give. Aside from her love of animals Joann spent her free time usually with her family or her close friends. She always went above and beyond to be there for others and had a way of lifting your spirits with her wisdom beyond her years and her beautiful smile. She was a graduate from Benedictine with a degree in Sociology and was working towards her masters. Her whole life all Joann ever wanted to do was help people and animals alike. She loved reading, hiking, animals, spending time with her family and friends. She had a fierce dedication and determination to and for the things she loved. Joann was tragically taken from us way to soon in an auto accident on March 7, 2017. We miss her so much and it seems like our broken hearts will never mend but as we all try to find ways to cope and to let Joann’s spirit live on we as a family have decided to pay it forward with Joann’s love guiding us. We will be sponsoring cat adoptions of the older/ handicapped cats currently through Tails Humane Society in honor of Joann and her love of the furry felines. We wish to continue to do this for as long as possible, our hope is that Joann’s legacy carries on long after us. We have started this page to share the story of Joann and the all too brief yet amazing life she lead. We encourage visitors, shared stories, pictures. Joann you are missed beyond words and loved beyond measure. We are all a little lost and heart broken without you but we are trying to let your words guide us because if we want this world bright we must bring our own candles.
