The NORTH COUNTRY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is a regional chamber serving Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton and northern Warren Counties in New York State and southern Quebec. The North Country Chamber was pleased to join in the official celebration of the completion of the CHAMPLAIN HUDSON POWER EXPRESS project, held at the South Street Seaport in New York City. Governor Kathy Hochul led the ceremonial inauguration.

The completion of CHPE is a truly historic milestone in meeting the state's need for clean energy. And it's another major economic connection between New York and Quebec, further building our shared future. The North Country Chamber is proud of its strong and active support of this visionary project from the start and we thank and congratulate all involved!

Last week, attendees had a unique opportunity to hear from two of the North Country's most influential leaders during an engaging discussion on Economic Development & Government Affairs. Garry Douglas, President/CEO of the North Country Chamber of Commerce, and Assemblyman Michael Cashman shared insights into their roles, the importance of strong governmental relationships, and how their work impacts businesses and communities across our region. Last Monday, Brandon Menard, Director Strategic Initiatives at the North Country Chamber of Commerce, attended Peru High School’s Business Achievement Awards ceremony.

During the event, Brandon had the honor of placing gold stoles on graduating seniors who earned 1,000 points over the course of the year through business education classes, service, and active participation in meetings. This program is part of Peru High School’s local chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. (FBLA).

Brandon also had the opportunity to announce the 2026 “Business Person of the Year” and serve as the event’s guest speaker. Congratulations to this year’s gold medal winner and $500 scholarship recipient, Lexi Macey, as well as Josh Tyrell and Lahla Lashway, who earned silver and bronze medals along with scholarships.

Organized entirely by students, the ceremony also featured several of their award-winning presentations, highlighting the impressive talent, professionalism, and dedication of these emerging leaders.

Being part of such a meaningful celebration was truly special. We wish all graduating seniors continued success in their future endeavors!"
