For caregivers of someone living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia, concerns about wandering can be overwhelming.

Project Lifesaver is designed to provide an added layer of protection and peace of mind.

Participants wear a personalized wrist or ankle transmitter that emits a unique tracking signal. If they go missing, specially trained first responders use the signal to help locate them as quickly and safely as possible.

ADCSI offers Project Lifesaver at no cost to eligible families in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Warren and Washington counties.

Hope can be complicated when someone you love is living with Alzheimer’s disease.

It shouldn’t come from an unproven supplement, an easy answer or a promise that sounds too good to be true. But it can come from credible information and from understanding that some risks may be influenced by the ways we care for our bodies and minds throughout life.

In this episode of Let’s Not Forget, Valarie Drown speaks with Dr. David Hoffman, a clinical professor at the University at Albany who also teaches bioethics at Albany Medical College. A longtime public-health leader, Dr. Hoffman previously led major Alzheimer’s disease, chronic-disease prevention and long-term-care initiatives at the New York State Department of Health.

Together, they explore what the science tells us about supporting brain health, how families can recognize misinformation and why caregivers’ stress, sleep and well-being cannot remain an afterthought.
