What does it mean if I rarely think about the Great Commission?

Does it mean I don't love Jesus? That I'm a bad Christian? That my faith isn't real?

Not necessarily.

Life is loud. Responsibilities are real. And sometimes just getting through the day takes everything we've got.

But here's a question worth sitting with:

What if the Great Commission wasn't meant to compete with your life?

What if it was meant to shape the way you live?

Your work. Your friendships. Your conversations. Even your ordinary Tuesdays.

Following Jesus changes more than what we believe. It changes the way we live. It changes how we see the people around us.

Not everyone is called to go to another country. But every follower of Jesus is invited to participate in making Him known.

Maybe the question isn't, "How do I fit the Great Commission into my life?"

Maybe it's, "How do I let the Great Commission reshape my life?"

Paul made tents. Lydia sold purple cloth. Priscilla and Aquila worked as tentmakers.

God has been using the marketplace to advance His mission all along.

Yet somewhere along the way, we started thinking of pastors and missionaries as the ones who do the ministry, while the rest of us help fund it.

But what if the marketplace has a much bigger role to play in the Great Commission than simply funding it?

For generations, businesspeople have crossed borders, built relationships, created jobs, and gained access to places and people others couldn't reach.

What could happen around the world if we stopped seeing the marketplace as just the wallet and started seeing it as a vehicle?

Maybe it's time to rethink what it means to be sent.

Jesus gave His followers an impossible mission.

Then He promised them power.

The book of Acts isn't the story of exceptionally motivated Christians. It's the story of a Church empowered by the Holy Spirit.

We were never meant to accomplish God's mission through more effort, more ambition, or more courage.

We need the Spirit of God.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” Acts 1:8

The mission is His.

So is the power.

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?

Our instinct is often to:

Figure it out.
Fix it.
Control it.

But sometimes… we can’t.

And in those moments, maybe the question isn’t:

“How do I figure this out?”

Maybe it’s:

“Where are my eyes?”

“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” — 2 Chronicles 20:12

I don’t know what to do.
But I know where to look.

Jesus is our fixed point.

We recently partnered with Realife Church in Indiana on a vision trip to North Africa, visiting thriving Business as Mission (BAM) operations.

We saw how God is using everyday businesses to serve communities, build relationships, and create opportunities for the Gospel through the ministry of proximity.

When you picture the mission field, what do you see?

A remote village?
A mountain tribe?
A place without roads?

Sometimes, that is exactly what it looks like.

But sometimes it looks like:

Paris.
London.
Amsterdam.
Prague.

Modern. Educated. Connected.

And still in need of the gospel.

Europe has been deeply shaped by Christianity for centuries. Yet today, much of the continent is described as post-Christian, and Europe is also home to hundreds of people groups classified as unreached.

Those aren't the same thing.

“Post-Christian” doesn't automatically mean “unreached.”

But both realities challenge us to expand our imagination of what the mission field looks like.

Because proximity to Christian history doesn't necessarily mean proximity to a vibrant witness of the gospel.

The mission field isn't always somewhere remote.

Sometimes it looks like Europe.

And reaching it may require traditional missionaries AND marketplace believers willing to ask:

Could God use my work to help me GO?

What if the career you thought was keeping you here is actually what could take you there?

For generations, we’ve celebrated people willing to leave careers behind to take the gospel around the world.

AND WE SHOULD.

But there’s more than one way to GO.

What about taking your career with you?

An engineer whose expertise opens a door in another country.

An entrepreneur who builds a business and creates meaningful work.

A teacher, healthcare professional, accountant, consultant, or tradesperson whose skills give them a reason to live and work somewhere else in the world.

Sometimes following Jesus means leaving the career.

But sometimes the career is what gets you there.

We need people who GO as traditional missionaries.

And we need people who GO through the marketplace.

Different assignments.
Same Great Commission.

What if your education, experience, and profession aren't obstacles to the Great Commission?
