A local 501c3 non-profit organization inspiring cancer survivors through surfing

An Annual Surfing Contest, Health Fair and Fundraiser to help inspire and educate people challenged with cancer -- through the positive energy of surfing. All proceeds will go to the Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) in San Luis Obispo, CA. This a great opportunity for both the surfing world and the medical world to join up to support people who are challenged with cancer.

Meet the inspiring lineup for the Surfing for Hope Cancer Survivor Heat from the Longboard classic benefit weekend!

🔴 Luella Pace (RED)— Surfing for her aunt, Mary Bigelow, a dedicated fitness trainer currently recovering from surgery after a spring pancreatic cancer diagnosis, backed by a huge, loving community.

🔵 Bryan Niven (BLUE)— Acclaimed artist/photographer and LUNCHTRÉ founder (Bryan Niven) who overcame Stage 4 cancer, multiple surgeries, and radiation; 15 years cancer-free, he bodysurfs daily living by: *“Life is crazy, but good. Go live yours!”*

⚪ Aleia Anderson (WHITE)— Honoring her beloved Auntie Sharon, an artistic, graceful soul whose spirit and love will forever live in the ocean and our hearts.

🟢 Tim Reda (GREEN)— Pro longboarder (ASP World Championships qualifier, WSL competitor) and co-owner of Endless Sun Surf School with his wife, Amy. Diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma brain tumor after seizures at a WSL contest, Tim beat severe odds with chemo, radiation, and a keto diet—shrinking the tumor to stable and returning to the waves.

Our Surfing for Hope 2026 Cancer Survivor Camp was nothing short of amazing!

What an honor to offer this free annual healing community for survivors, those currently in treatment, and their families. Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their stories and journeys.

A special thank you to Tammy Sonnabend Tammy Sonnabend for sharing her cancer journey and leading gentle breathwork and yoga, as well as our co-founder and cancer survivor Bob Voglin . We also loved having Sophia and her pup Rusty , with us—both are inspiring cancer survivors who brought so much stoke to camp.

Huge thanks to Lorin and the All Day Surf team for making our surf camps a resounding success, Ben from Ben Schutzer for capturing these special moments, Graze Charcuterie for the gourmet boxed beach lunches, and our tireless Surfing for Hope volunteers.

Thank you to the Pismo Beach CA and all who support Surfing For Hope in serving our community.

Our second and final Survivor Camp of the 2026 season takes place in partnership with Avila Beach Paddlesports on Saturday, October 17, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, followed by our 15th Annual Memorial Paddle Out sponsored by Home Health and Hospice

This free community event is designed for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and loved ones, bringing together resource organizations, support services, expert guidance, and opportunities for connection.
