FIND Outdoors

FIND Outdoors FIND is an outdoor recreation nonprofit that centers forest education and stewardship.

FIND Outdoors is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Pisgah Forest, NC, and just outside of the beautiful mountain town of Brevard. Home to our very own ‘white squirrels’, Brevard is the gateway to Pisgah National Forest and serves as a staging area for hiking, camping, waterfall-searching, restaurants, art, music and so much more. We inspire people to connect with nature through well-managed

outdoor recreation sites, campgrounds, visitor centers, guided tours, and educational and outdoor opportunities for all ages and abilities. We also manage retail outlets that offer forest-related gifts and souvenirs, nature-based activities for children, local crafts, and trail guides.

What a way to kick off the Stewards & Storytellers Learning Series at the FIND NEST tonight!

We had a packed house for our first event, and Dr. Jennifer Frick-Ruppert had everyone captivated with her fascinating presentation on bioluminescence and the incredible plants, fungi, and animals that glow in nature.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success. We’re excited to keep the momentum going with more evenings of learning, storytelling, and community.

Special thanks to our sponsors, Oskar Blues Brevard, Self-Help Credit Union, and Publix for helping make this series possible.

Upcoming events:

July 9: Native Plants for Landscapes & Home Gardens with Tony Ward
July 23: Edible & Medicinal Plants of the Smokies with Lee “Natty” Trebotich
August 20: Wildlife Photography Basics with Steve Matadobra
September 10: History of the French Broad River with David & Debi Whitmire
September 24: Natural Resource Management with Robert Beanblossom

All events are free to attend and include drinks and refreshments. We hope to see you at the next Stewards & Storytellers event!

Join us on Thursday, June 11 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm for the first Stewards & Storytellers Learning Series event!

The Southern Appalachians can boast of one of the most intriguing spectacles in nature: the annual emergence of Blue Ghost Fireflies. Come out and learn more about fireflies, railroad worms, touch-wood, foxfire, and other creatures that glow in the dark with our local biodiversity expert, Dr. Jennifer Frick-Ruppert.

When you arrive at the FIND Outdoors Headquarters in the NEST (Suite 3), you’ll be welcomed at the door for check-in before settling in for a free community lecture event. Enjoy complimentary drinks and refreshments while learning about a variety of outdoor topics throughout this multi-part lecture series.

Brasstown Bald is a protected site within the Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest, managed as public land for everyone to experience and enjoy.

Recently, we’ve seen instances of vandalism at Brasstown Bald. These actions damage shared public spaces and take valuable time and resources away from preserving this special place.

Please remember:

• Vandalism on U.S. Forest Service property is illegal under federal law
• Damaging, defacing, or marking natural or built features may result in fines, restitution for damages, and/or legal penalties
• These actions can also result in loss of access privileges in certain cases

Brasstown Bald is a visually monitored site and regularly staffed area, and we work to help protect both visitors and the landscape.

We ask all visitors to help care for this place:

• Leave no trace
• Respect all signs, structures, and natural features
• Report vandalism or suspicious activity to staff or law enforcement if safe to do so

This mountain belongs to everyone and its protection depends on everyone who visits.

Let’s keep Brasstown Bald clean, respected, and preserved for the next person standing at the summit.
