FIND is an outdoor recreation nonprofit that centers forest education and stewardship.

FIND Outdoors is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Pisgah Forest, NC, and just outside of the beautiful mountain town of Brevard. Home to our very own ‘white squirrels’, Brevard is the gateway to Pisgah National Forest and serves as a staging area for hiking, camping, waterfall-searching, restaurants, art, music and so much more. We inspire people to connect with nature through well-managed outdoor recreation sites, campgrounds, visitor centers, guided tours, and educational and outdoor opportunities for all ages and abilities. We also manage retail outlets that offer forest-related gifts and souvenirs, nature-based activities for children, local crafts, and trail guides.

This past weekend, the Cradle of Forestry hosted a night of Appalachian folklore and Halloween-inspired ballads. The night was surely an unforgettable one, from storytelling to music told by Sheila Kay Adams, along with Donna Ray Norton and William Ritter. The night left guests with spooky tales to tell for years to come!

This past weekend, the Explorers Club ventured out into Pisgah National Forest for their annual camping trip! Despite the cold weather and small group, the Explorers had a great time! They learned how to start a fire properly, set up their own tent, and how to practice Leave No Trace.

Tonight at the NEST! Come, bring a friend and enjoy free refreshments!

Join us on Thursday, October 15, at 6:00 PM for another event in our Stewards & Storytellers Series!

In this workshop, led by Donna Ray Norton and William Ritter, participants will explore the distinctive style of Appalachian ballad singing through live examples and discussion. They will learn about the stylistic quirks and storytelling traditions that make these songs unique, as well as the reasons singers developed these approaches.

When you arrive at the FIND Outdoors Headquarters in the NEST (Suite 3), you’ll be welcomed at the door for check-in before settling in for a free community lecture event. Enjoy complimentary drinks and refreshments while learning about a variety of outdoor topics throughout this multi-part lecture series.
