Attention Lake Winfield Scott Community

Lake Winfield Scott Campground will be closed starting September 1, 2026 for construction and renovations funded through the Great American Outdoors Act. This closure will affect the remainder of this season and continue into next season.

FAQ

How long will the campground be closed?
We don't have firm dates yet, but plan for the closure to run through the rest of this season and most, if not all, of next season.

Can I still access the day use area?
No. The campground and lake will be an active construction zone, and no entry will be permitted.

Can I still kayak, swim, or fish?
No. The campground and lake will be an active construction zone, and no entry will be permitted.

What will be renovated?
The project will focus on upgraded amenities and structures, along with road/ pathway improvements throughout the campground. Specific details will be shared as the project progresses.

We'll miss our wonderful campers and visitors, but we can't wait to open up as soon as we are able!

The Biltmore Campus Trail is fully open once again!

After months of construction and renovations, the Biltmore Campus Trail at the Cradle of Forestry is now fully open to visitors!

The closure allowed crews to repair sections of the trail and, most importantly, replace the existing box culvert beneath the trail. In early February, the wall and stone caps were also removed for replacement after they began sliding downhill.

As part of the project, the crew replaced the box culvert with an Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP), a more natural approach to stream crossings that benefits both the trail and the ecosystem.

We’re excited to welcome visitors back to the Biltmore Campus Trail and invite you to come see the improvements for yourself!

The trail is open and ready to explore!

Expert astronomers will guide participants through the night, interpreting the wonders of the universe through their galactic stories and expertise. You will also be given the opportunity to use high powered telescopes to explore our universe even further.
