Blue Star Service Dogs BSSD trains shelter dogs into Service Animals to be paired with disabled Veterans & First responders Traditional treatment alone is often not enough.

THE VETERANS
Veterans are returning from combat theaters with PTSD and TBI in record numbers. Estimates suggest that 13.8% of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans live with PTSD. Anywhere from 150,000 to 300,000 service members have some level of TBI. THE DOGS
Meanwhile there are five million dogs sitting in shelters and rescues every day across the country. Many of these dogs would make excellent psychiatric service dogs for those veterans living with PTSD and TBI for whom traditional treatments are not enough. WE BELIEVE IN RESCUE DOGS
Our dogs come from rescue organizations, shelters, animal control agencies and humane societies. We believe that many mixed breed and rescue dogs can make wonderful service animals and create a mutually beneficial relationship with a veteran living with PTSD and/or TBI. WE CAN HELP IN HEALING
Service Dogs can perform a variety of tasks for their handler in order for the handler to have a fuller life with fewer symptoms. Service Dogs can do things such as turn on lights, provide a safe space in public, wake their handler from a night terror, reminding the handler to take medication and so much more. BLUE STAR SERVICE DOGS IS UNIQUE
Blue Star relies on donations and grants to provide this training to our military veterans at no cost to the veteran. Our programs are not one-size fits all. Instead, we provide a unique training experience that accounts for the strengths and needs of the dog and the veteran. We seek to form lifelong bonds between veteran and service dog, not just provide them with training. If you are a veteran looking to apply for a service dog, please send an email to [email protected] for more information. Please allow at least 72 hours for a response.

A HUGE DOUBLE SHOUTOUT AND THANK YOU to Samuels Excavating and Tri-County Builders! ❤️🐾

Today was one of those days when we desperately needed a little help, and our amazing community came through for us!

After spending all morning moving what seemed like a never-ending mountain of wood chips, we put out a last-minute plea for help. And boy, did we get some help!

A HUGE thank you to Chris from Tri-County Builders for connecting us with Samuels Excavation! Henry and his crew came out and absolutely saved the day! They were AMAZING! What would have taken us forever to accomplish, they tackled with the right equipment and made it look easy.

I cannot say enough about people and businesses like these. They didn’t have to get involved, but they did. And that kind of kindness and willingness to help means more than they probably realize.

Running a nonprofit takes a village, and today was another reminder that we have one heck of a village standing behind Blue Star Service Dogs!

Please help us give BOTH of these incredible businesses some well-deserved love! Remember their names, support their businesses, and support the people who show up for their community.

Chris, Henry, and the entire crew, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! You took a huge weight off our shoulders today, and we are beyond grateful! ❤️🐾

Updated: we found someone❤️

🚨 LAST-MINUTE HELP NEEDED TODAY! 🚨

Blue Star Service Dogs could really use a few extra hands today!

We have a HUGE pile of wood chips that needs to be moved to our backyard so the county can come out and make repairs to our parking lot. Unfortunately, the wood chips are right in their way!

We’ve been out here moving them all morning, and I swear this pile is multiplying every time we turn around! 😂

If anyone has a tractor, skid steer, or any equipment that could help us move these wood chips, we would be beyond grateful! Even if you don’t have equipment but have some time and muscle to spare, we could really use the help.

We know this is extremely last minute, but we’re hoping someone in our amazing community might be able to come to our rescue today.

Please send us a message if you can help, and even if you can’t, sharing this post would mean so much!

Thank you all for always showing up for Blue Star Service Dogs. ❤️🐾

Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder that mental health deserves the same care, attention, and understanding as physical health.

For many veterans and first responders, struggles with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other invisible wounds can continue long after the uniform comes off or the shift ends.

At Blue Star Service Dogs, we believe in the power of support, connection, and having someone by your side through the difficult moments. Today, take time to check in with yourself and the people around you. Sometimes simply starting the conversation can make a difference. 💙
