Increased Risk of Wildfire Due to Elevated Fire Danger -- Thursday, June 18, 2026

The National Weather Service has issued fire danger statements for central and eastern North Carolina. What does increased fire danger mean for you today?

🎯 Fires can start from the smallest spark.
🎯 Dry conditions and wind increase fire spread.
🎯 Everyday activities carry more risk right now.

Avoid burning, and be cautious with anything that could cause a spark. Properly dispose of smoking materials such as ci******es. Be extremely careful with machinery and farm equipment when working outdoors.

We are getting so close now, but the new playground remains closed so the new rubberized surface can properly cure. We ask everyone to remain patient and keep off the surface as we cross this final hurdle. The tentative plan is to take all the barriers down early next week for a soft opening and plan to have the official Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting at the Freedom Fireworks event on Saturday, June 27th. More details to come on that.
Please understand that even after it opens, we plan to continue to enhance the area around the playground with a fence for safety as well as parking options nearby. We can't wait for everyone to begin to enjoy this wonderful facility.
