Today, GWAA hosted what we refer to as a "Fly a Controller" event. We invite Tower and RAPCON (Radar Approach Control) Air Traffic Controllers from Seymour Johnson Air Force base out to GWW (Wayne Executive Jetport) and fly them around the area. The route begins at GWW, runs through ISO (Kinston), GSB (Seymour), W40 (Mount Olive), then returns to GWW. While they fly, they interact with Seymour Approach so they get a chance to see the other side of their communication.

We had a great event and everyone was having a great time. We look forward to switching the crews at a later date and allow those who had to stay behind to do the talking to have a chance to do the same thing.

It's that time of the month again. We have hit a third Thursday. Come on out to GWW and get some food and fellowship with fellow aviation enthusiasts. Tonight we will have a safety briefing and do some planning for the Fly a Controller event on Saturday, April 25th. We need a handful of hands, so please come out and see how you can help make the event a success.

As usual, food at 6:00. 224 Aviation Drive, Pikeville, NC.

Our monthly third Thursday meeting is happening this week. We will meet on Thursday, February 19th, at the Wayne Community College Aviation Systems Technology classroom building located at 224 Aviation Drive, Pikeville, NC. Food will be ready at 6:00 PM in the breakroom. At 6:30, we will move to the classroom for a brief business session, then begin a safety seminar at 7:00. Spock 🖖 will present information on safe formation flying.

Come on out and join us. If you would like to receive WINGS credit for attending this seminar, we would greatly appreciate it if you registered through your faasafety.gov account. Registering helps us plan for the meeting. Using your account helps ensure that credit is allocated correctly. Here is a link to the event:

We have started meeting again!

GWAA did not meet for a while after the events of 2020. Last year, we began to reassemble and hold meetings. We are working to regain our momentum so we can return to our original intent: promoting aviation in our community.

Our first meeting of 2026 will be on Thursday, January 15th. We are continuing with the flow from prior years. We start at 6:00 PM with food. After that, we transition to a short session to catch up on the current month's GWAA business. Then, around 7:00, we move into a discussion on a safety topic.

This month, Spock (Bob Ingle) will catch us up on the new MOSAIC rule. As we have done in the past, many of our topics can be used for WINGS credit through the FAASTeam. If you would like to attend and receive credit, please register in advance through the faasafety.gov website. This helps streamline and reduce errors in issuing credit. To go directly to the page for this meeting, go to
https://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/event_details.aspx?eid=141009&caller=/SPANS/events/EventList.aspx

There will be a collection container to help offset the cost of the food. We do not charge for the meal, but we ask for donations toward that expense.

Come join us, enjoy some food and fellowship, and be a part of spreading enthusiasm for aviation in our community.
