Remembering Dolly Parton, who sadly passed away at the age of 80.

The Grammy Award winning country music icon was known for hit songs such as “9 to 5,” “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You,” as well as her roles in films including Steel Magnolias and Joyful Noise. She was also beloved for her many philanthropic efforts through the Dollywood Foundation.

We’re looking back at Parton’s 2016 interview with Larry King, during which the superstar discussed her support for the LGBTQ+ community.

There will never be another Dolly Parton. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.

Dolly Parton never needed to share every part of our story to stand beside us. She did something rarer: she loved everyone loudly. She defended our right to be ourselves and, even when pressed, refused to make judgment a virtue.

For generations of LGBTQ+ people, and especially q***r Appalachians, she was more than big hair and rhinestones. She was proof that mountain roots, kindness, and acceptance were never mutually exclusive.

Rest easy, Dolly. 🌈🦋
