Wood ducks are always a favorite at Coyote Run in the spring.

Friends of Coyote Run

Interested in volunteering? Coyote Run needs help with invasive plant control, tree planting and maintenance. Battling invasives is a never-ending challenge but seeing the landscape move from “invasives everywhere” to the regrowth of native vegetation is rewarding. We work for no more than a couple hours at a time in various parts of Coyote Run. Volunteers may expect rough, uneven terrain and should be prepared with long-sleeved shirts & pants, work boots and gloves. If interested, please register at:

Fairfield County Park District held a vernal pool exploration event recently at Coyote Run. A determined group of folks braved the rain and witnessed a migration of spotted salamanders. With relatively high temperatures and rain, it was ideal conditions for the salamanders to move from their overwinter dens to the vernal pools. As always, Fairfield County Park District did an excellent job at explaining the life cycle of mole salamanders and making sure everyone had a good time.

Congratulations to Kyle Greuey and his fellow Scouts in completing his Eagle Scout project. Kyle and crew built 9 sections of a portable boardwalk for use at Coyote Run. These will be put to good use in the wetter portions of the property to give better access to wetlands and vernal pools. Thank you, Kyle!

What's making all that racket in the wetlands? Such a tiny guy to make so much noise. This spring peeper is calling for a mate at Coyote Run. Video courtesy of Bill Batin.
