Planetary stewards in action...

A few days ago I was talking with a long-time friend about this being the Seed’s 50th year. He asked how the school has changed since the first year we started. I said that the Seed has expanded in many ways, a larger staff, bigger playground, more financial resources, and broader community, but f...

In remembrance...

This day 25 years ago was one of the most unforgettable in all of the Seed’s history. It was the day the World Trade Center in New York was destroyed by terrorists, and the concept of impermanence took on a whole new meaning. It was a day when we all questioned our safety and developed . . .

In a previous post I described the work we did with staff to create vision boards that was an expression of our intentional reflection. Currently, I’ve turned m...

The theme we choose becomes foundational for the next ten months. This year, as we begin our 50th yea...

May all beings be free...

(text adapted from my 2024 Juneteenth blog) On Friday, June 19, the Seed will be closed in honor of Juneteenth. Britt Hawthorne describes it as a day “to commemorate the day that enslaved Black Texans in the U.S. were finally free.” It’s the longest Black American holiday to be celebrated, and...

Even summer has its blessings...

Running a camp for children during a Phoenix summer is no easy task. Many of the activities normally available to children during summer months are off limits. Due to excessive heat and sun, they can’t spend long days involved in the kind of outdoor activities many of us did in our childhood. When...
