Tiger Woods’ tribute to Notah Begay III was about much more than golf.

As Begay received the Payne Stewart Award, Tiger reflected on a friendship that stretches all the way back to when they were just 11 years old — long before PGA Tour wins, major championships, television careers or any of the success that followed.

What stood out most was Tiger’s emphasis on the work Begay has done away from the spotlight. Through his commitment to Native American communities and programs that have reportedly reached more than 80,000 young people and their families, Begay’s impact extends far beyond anything recorded on a scorecard.

And then Tiger finished with the line that really captured the moment:

“Thank you for getting our friendship started and I love you, dude.” ❤️

We’ve watched these two share golf courses, Presidents Cups and countless moments over the decades, but seeing a friendship survive from childhood into their late 40s — through all the extraordinary highs and difficult lows along the way — is pretty special.

Some legacies are measured in trophies.

Others are measured in the people you helped along the way. 👏⛳
