"Closing the gaps in infrastructure and health care requires sustained commitment—not just attention when things finally reach a breaking point."

2017 Flinn-Brown Fellow Daryl Melvin, P.E. founded Melvin Consulting, a civil engineering and professional services firm, to serve native-led nonprofits, tribal governments, and rural schools. Hopi and Navajo, his work is grounded in a lifelong connection to the land and the people who depend on it. He's experienced first hand what's at stake when rural and Indigenous communities are overlooked in public policy and envisions a future where young Arizonans are empowered to step into civic life and shape solutions, not just inherit the problems left behind.

We’re hiring for our fall intern! 🎉

We're looking for a college intern to join the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership at the Flinn Foundation this fall — and if you're the right person, you'll know it pretty quickly reading this.

This is a paid, in-person role where you'll actually do things that matter. You'll help us pull off civic leadership events, manage social media, contribute to our Network newsletter, and support the Flinn-Brown Academy — the Fellowship program that has been developing Arizona's civic leaders for 15 years. You'll work closely with our small team, get handed real responsibility, and walk away knowing exactly how civic leadership works in Arizona — not just in theory.

We’re looking for someone who’s organized, curious, a strong communicator, and comfortable juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. If you’re interested in public policy, political science, communications, or civic engagement—and want to be part of meaningful work that connects leaders across Arizona—we’d love to hear from you.

📩 To apply: Email Dawn Wallace, VP of Civic Leadership, at [email protected] with a cover letter, current resume, and a work product that demonstrates the skills and talents you will bring to the role.

🚨👉 College students enrolled for fall only | August 17 - Dec 11 |20–25 hours/week | In person at Flinn | Must be available 8-5pm Thursdays & Fridays
