๐Ÿ“ฃ New on the RLC blog!

Today's blog post features Palestinian Christian writer, Jack Nassar, whose work focuses on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Palestinian Christianity, Christian Zionism, and Arab and Middle Eastern Christianity, with a thought-provoking story about life in Palestine.

He says, "This is a call to make pilgrimage mean what the word should mean. If we can visit the place where Jesus was born and leave without becoming more curious about the people who live there today, perhaps we should ask what exactly we went there to see."

๐Ÿ“ฃ New on the RLC blog!

Faith-based anti-death penalty activists have used the bell-tolling tactic throughout the country in various waves.

Today's blog post, โ€œWith three prisoners scheduled for ex*****on, southern churches toll their bells,โ€ by Aleja Hertzler-McCain (Religion News Service) highlights the efforts of Death Penalty Action and For Whom the Bells Toll groups to ring bells in protest of the death penalty.

Red Letter Christians Virtual Practicum โ€” Faith, Worship, and Justice

Gather with us for our second virtual practicum, a time of learning and honest conversation with voices shaping how the church prays, worships, and works for justice.

We're joined by:

Fares Abraham โ€” Palestinian-American pastor born in Bethlehem, founder of Levant Ministries, and host of The Fares Abraham Podcast.

Joash Thomas โ€” priest and public theologian based near Toronto, author of "The Justice of Jesus," drawing on his St. Thomas Indian Christian roots and a decade in global human rights work.

Lamma Mansour โ€” Palestinian Christian writer, speaker, and sociologist from Nazareth, whose work explores how hope, beauty, and faith take form in the midst of struggle.

Sandra Van Opstal โ€” second-generation Latina pastor, liturgist, and co-founder of Chasing Justice, known for reimagining worship that mobilizes people toward reconciliation and justice.

In False Peace, pastor and advocate Pricelis Perreaux-Dominguez makes a bold case that much of what the church calls "unity" is really just uniformity โ€” rooted in colonialism, assimilation, and comfort. Drawing on Scripture and her own experience as a Black Latina pastor in the Bronx, she challenges readers to trade surface-level peace for the courageous, difference-embracing unity God actually calls us to. Today's blog features an excerpt from this critical new book!

โ€œThereโ€™s plenty here to instruct and inspire pastors and church study groups.โ€โ€”Publishers Weekly

๐Ÿ›‘ There is one ex*****on scheduled this week ๐Ÿ›‘

- August 18 | FL | William Frances Silvia Jr.

Follow Death Penalty Action for the latest updates on how to take action to stop every ex*****on.

Red Letter Christians stands fully opposed to the death penalty. Much of Scripture was written by murderers given a second chanceโ€”Moses, David, Paul. If we believe some sins are beyond redemption, we'd lose half the Bible.

Jesus came not for the righteous but for sinners. Grace gets the last word. Where sin abounds, grace abounds. Blessed are the merciful.

The death penalty denies Christ's power to redeem and restore. When Jesus faced an ex*****on, he said, "Let the one without sin cast the first stone." The only one who could throw it didn't want to. The closer we are to God, the less we want to condemn.

No one is beyond redemption.

๐Ÿ“ฃ New on the RLC blog!

Today's blog post by Bethany Dearborn Hiser, was written in honor of all activists and advocates who are exhausted and burning out from the labor, toll, and moral injury of seeking to provide care and advocate for change in this current climate.

A version of it was published on her Substack in May on International Workers' Day, a Global Day of Actionnthat unites labor movements, immigrant rights advocates, and community organizations to demand labor rights, dignity, and fair treatment for all, particularly immigrant workers. This is an enlightening read!
