Our visit with Nobles County Pheasants Forever was great time! This was my second trip to Minnesota and this year I took Josh Greenberg a brand new hunter, brand new bird dog owner and the newest member of our local Pheasants Forever chapter.
I told Josh this trip was going to be trial by fire for he and his young wirehaired pointing griffon Moose. Neither of them had ever pheasant hunted. They both came out of this trip completely different hunters than when we first set out to drive the 11 hour trip from Toledo to Minnesota.
His dog Moose hit the ground running with lots of flushes out ahead of him. But, by the end of the weekend, he had locked down 3 different roosters for Josh to get shots at and had many more points on hens. I bagged this big old 3 year rooster after Moose flushed him, and then Moose found him for me tucked deep into a clump of grass. He did great. Josh did great.
My Minnesota friends were so welcoming and helpful to these brand new hunters. Giving out lots of tips for both of them so they can hopefully become a great hunting duo for many years to come. Josh said it was “information overload”. LOL. And even I, as a 40 year hunter, learned a few tricks to put in my back pocket.
