Dear Dhamma Friends and Supporters of Dhammasala Forest Monastery,

With gratitude and warm hearts, we invite you to join us in honoring the life, teachings, and legacy of our beloved Abbot, the Venerable Phra Kru Ajahn Khemasanto.

On Sunday, March 22nd at 1:00 pm. The Bhikkhus of Dhammasala Forest Monastery warmly welcome you to gather with us for a day of merit-making and gentle remembrance. Ajahn Khemasanto dedicated decades to guiding our community with unwavering compassion, patience, and wisdom rooted in the Buddha's teachings. This gathering offers a meaningful opportunity to express our shared appreciation and dedicate merit for his peaceful journey onward.

The program will follow our daily alms meal, and begin at 1:00 pm. We will assemble in the sala for a formal remembrance beginning with:

A reading of Ajahn Khemasanto’s eulogy by the Venerable Ajahn Ryan Thiitisampanno.

The formal dedication of merit through chanting for the deceased, offered with compassion and gratitude.

Following the chanting, we invite everyone to offer flowers in his memory-a simple, beautiful act of generosity and loving-kindness that brings peace to the mind and supports the one who has passed.

After the formal offerings, the floor will open for those who wish to share a few rods, memories, or reflections in honor of Ajahn Khemasanto.

The formal portion is expected to conclude around 2:30 PM, after which we will transition to a more relaxed, informal atmosphere until 4:00 PM

All are welcome, whether longtime supporters or newcomers touched by Ajahn's guidance. Your presence alone is a profound offering of connection and gratitude. Please feel free to bring flowers if you wish, though nothing is required—your kind thoughts and attendance are the greatest gifts.

May this day bring comfort to our hearts, strengthen our practice of the Dhamma, and allow us to honor Ajahn Khemasanto in the spirit of simplicity, mindfulness, and mettā that he so beautifully embodied.

คณะสงฆ์วัดป่าธรรมศาลาใคร่ขอเรียนเชิญท่านทั้งหลายร่วมพิธีบำเพ็ญกุศล และน้อมรำลึกถึงชีวิต ปฏิปทา คำสอน และคุณูปการอันไพศาลของพระอุปัชฌาย์ผู้เป็นที่รักยิ่งของพวกเรา อดีตเจ้าอาวาส ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต ผู้ได้ละสังขารไปแล้ว ในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 22 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2569

ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้อุทิศตนตลอดหลายทศวรรษในการเกื้อกูล แนะนำ และนำพาชุมชนของเราด้วยเมตตาธรรม ความอดทน และปัญญาอันหยั่งรากในพระพุทธศาสนาอย่างลึกซึ้ง จึงนับเป็นโอกาสอันสมควรเพื่อระลึกในคุณความดีของท่าน และร่วมอุทิศส่วนกุศลเพื่อการเดินทางอันสงบแห่งจิตของท่านสืบไป

พิธีการในครั้งนี้จะจัดขึ้นภายหลังภัตตาหารเพลประจำวัน ณ ศาลาการเปรียญ วัดป่าธรรมศาลา โดยมีกำหนดการดังต่อไปนี้:

13:00 น. - คำสดุดีท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต โดยพระอาจารย์ไรอัน ฐิติสัมปันโน
- คณะสงฆ์เจริญพระพุทธมนต์และประกอบพิธีบำเพ็ญกุศลแด่ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต
- ศิษยานุศิษย์ และผู้มีจิตศรัทธาร่วมถวายดอกไม้เพื่อเป็นการรำลึกและแสดงความอาลัย
- เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ที่ประสงค์จะกล่าวถ้อยคำ แบ่งปันความทรงจำ หรือความรำลึกต่าง ๆ เพื่อถวายเป็นเกียรติแด่ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตเป็นลำดับต่อไป

14:30 น. จบพิธีการ หลังจากนั้นศิษยานุศิษย์ และผู้มีจิตศรัทธาพบปะพูดคุยตามอัธยาศัย ถึงเวลาประมาณ 16:00 น. เป็นอันเสร็จสิ้นพิธี

คณะสงฆ์ใคร่ขอเรียนเชิญศิษยานุศิษย์ และผู้มีจิตศรัทธาทุกท่าน มาร่วมงานโดยพร้อมเพรียงกัน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นท่านผู้ที่คุ้นเคยมาเป็นเวลานาน หรือท่านผู้ที่เพิ่งมีโอกาสสัมผัสคุณแห่งคำสอนของท่านพระอาจารย์ การมาร่วมพิธีของท่านนับเป็นการถวายความเคารพและระลึกแต่ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เป็นครั้งสุดท้าย ผู้ร่วมพิธีสามารถนำดอกไม้มาร่วมถวายความเคารพได้ตามศรัทธา มิได้เป็นข้อบังคับ เพราะการมีจิตเมตตาและการมาร่วมพิธีของท่าน คือกุศลอันประเสริฐยิ่งแล้ว

เรียน สหธรรมิกและผู้มีจิตศรัทธาทุกท่าน แห่งวัดป่าธรรมศาลา

ขอแจ้งให้ทราบถึงการละสังขารของท่านพระอุปัชฌาย์อันเป็นที่รักยิ่งของเรา คือ ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต ซึ่งได้ละสังขารอย่างสงบในเช้าวันศุกร์ที่ 23 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2569 / ค.ศ. 2026

ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้ละสังขารอย่างสงบในที่จำวัด ท่ามกลางความเงียบสงบของป่า และความอบอวลแห่งพระธรรมที่ท่านได้ดำเนินชีวิตอย่างเต็มเปี่ยมมาตลอด ช่วงสุดท้ายแห่งชีวิตของท่านยังคงเปี่ยมด้วยขันติ ความเมตตา และอุเบกขา อันเป็นคุณธรรมที่ปรากฏเด่นชัดตลอดชีวิตสมณเพศของท่าน

ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต ถือกำเนิดและเติบโตที่เมืองมิดแลนด์ รัฐมิชิแกน ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา และได้มีโอกาสรู้จักพระธรรมตั้งแต่วัยเยาว์ ท่านได้บรรพชาเป็นสามเณรในปี พ.ศ. 2511 ณ วัดบวรนิเวศวิหาร กรุงเทพมหานคร โดยได้รับฉายาว่า “ธมฺมาราโม” ต่อมาได้ออกธุดงค์และฝึกปฏิบัติอย่างลึกซึ้งในสายพระกรรมฐานไทย ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2513–2519 ณ วัดป่าหลายแห่ง ภายใต้การอบรมสั่งสอนของพระอาจารย์ผู้ทรงคุณธรรม อาทิ หลวงตามหาบัว หลวงปู่บัว หลวงปู่ดุลย์ และพระอาจารย์ท่านอื่น ๆ อีกหลายรูป หลังจากลาสิกขาและครองเพศคฤหัสถ์อยู่ระยะหนึ่ง ท่านได้อุปสมบทอีกครั้งในปี พ.ศ. 2536 ณ วัดบวรนิเวศวิหาร โดยมีสมเด็จพระสังฆราช (สมเด็จพระญาณสังวร สมเด็จพระสังฆราช สกลมหาสังฆปรินายก) เป็นพระอุปัชฌาย์ และได้รับนามฉายาว่า “เขมสันโต”

ในปี พ.ศ. 2542 ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้เดินทางกลับประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาตามคำขอของบิดามารดาซึ่งมีอายุมากแล้ว และด้วยการนิมนต์จากทั้งชุมชนชาวไทยและชาวต่างชาติ ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้ช่วยก่อตั้งวัดเถรวาทในสายพระป่าขึ้น ในปี พ.ศ. 2544 ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้รับการแต่งตั้งอย่างเป็นทางการให้ดำรงตำแหน่งเจ้าอาวาสวัดป่าธรรมศาลาโดยมหาเถรสมาคม ตลอดเวลากว่าสองทศวรรษ ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้ปกครองและดูแลวัดด้วยความเสียสละอย่างไม่ย่อท้อ เป็นผู้นำทางธรรม มอบคำสอน กำลังใจ และเป็นแบบอย่างแห่งการดำเนินตามพระพุทธปฏิบัติแก่ผู้มาเยือน ผู้ปฏิบัติธรรม และพระภิกษุสามเณรจำนวนมาก

ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตเป็นผู้เปี่ยมด้วยคุณธรรมที่พระพุทธองค์ทรงสรรเสริญ ได้แก่ ความสมถะ ความกรุณา ความอดทน และปัญญาอันลึกซึ้ง ท่านได้สัมผัสและเปลี่ยนแปลงชีวิตของผู้คนมากมาย ผ่านคำแนะนำอันอ่อนโยน พระธรรมเทศนา และการดำรงอยู่ด้วยความสงบ ที่เชื้อเชิญให้ผู้คนค้นพบสันติท่ามกลางความไม่เที่ยงของชีวิต

คณะสงฆ์วัดป่าธรรมศาลา ขอแสดงความขอบคุณอย่างสุดซึ้งต่อพุทธศาสนิกชนทุกท่านที่ได้ให้การอุปัฏฐากและสนับสนุน ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตในช่วงสุดท้ายแห่งชีวิต ไม่ว่าจะด้วยการมาเยี่ยมเยียน การถวายปัจจัยและสิ่งของ คำพูดที่เปี่ยมด้วยเมตตา การช่วยเหลือในกิจธุระต่างๆ รวมถึงการสวดพระปริตร ทุกท่านล้วนเป็นกำลังใจและนำความอิ่มเอิบมาสู่ ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตอย่างยิ่ง ความเอื้อเฟื้อของท่านทั้งหลายทำให้ชุมชนสามารถดูแล ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตได้อย่างสมเกียรติและงดงาม ขอขอบคุณเป็นพิเศษแด่พระภิกษุและญาติโยมผู้เสียสละช่วยดูแลกิจวัตรประจำวันของท่าน ความทุ่มเทของท่านเป็นการแสดงออกซึ่งกตัญญูกตเวทีต่อครูบาอาจารย์ผู้ให้ธรรมอย่างแท้จริง

ตามหลักพระธรรมคำสอน เราทั้งหลายขอร่วมกันระลึกว่า สังขารทั้งปวงไม่เที่ยง (อนิจจัง) มีความเกิดขึ้นและดับไปเป็นธรรมดา ชีวิตของท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต เป็นพยานแห่งสัจธรรมข้อนี้ และการละสังขารอย่างสงบของท่านเป็นเครื่องเตือนใจให้เราทั้งหลายเร่งเพียรปฏิบัติธรรมในขณะที่ยังมีโอกาสได้เกิดมาเป็นมนุษย์

กำหนดการพิธีศพและงานบำเพ็ญกุศลจะประกาศให้ทราบในโอกาสอันใกล้นี้ ในระยะต่อไป ทางวัดจะจัดให้มีการสวดพระพุทธมนต์ กิจกรรมสร้างบุญกุศล และดำเนินกิจวัตรประจำวันของวัดต่อไป เพื่ออุทิศเป็นธรรมบูชาแด่ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโต พุทธศาสนิกชนผู้ศร้ทธาทุกท่านสามารถเข้าร่วมเพื่ออุทิศส่วนกุศลแด่การเดินทางอันสงบของท่านได้โดยพร้อมเพรียงกัน

ขออำนาจคุณพระศรีรัตนตรัยจงอภิบาลให้ท่านพระครูอาจารย์เขมสันโตเข้าถึงพระนิพพานอันเป็นบรมสุข

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Abbot, the Venerable Phra Kru Ajahn Khemasanto, on the morning of Friday, January 23, 2569 (BE) / 2026 (CE).

The Venerable Ajahn Khemasanto passed away peacefully in his bed overnight, surrounded by the quiet of the forest and the gentle presence of the Dhamma he lived so fully. His final days were marked by the same patience, kindness, and equanimity that characterized his entire life as a monk.

Born and raised in Midland, Michigan, Ajahn Khemasanto first encountered the Dhamma in his youth. He was ordained as a novice in 1968 at Wat Bovornives in Bangkok, Thailand, receiving the name Dhammaramo. Over the years, he trained deeply in the Thai Forest Tradition, living at various forest temples from 1970 to 1976 under revered teachers including Ajahn Maha Bua, Luang Pu Bua, Luang Pu Dun, and others. After a period of lay life, he re-ordained in 1993 at Wat Bovornives with the Supreme Patriarch Somdet Nanasanvara as his preceptor, receiving the name Khemasanto.

In 1999, he returned to America at the request of his aging parents. Invited by both Asian and American communities, he helped establish a Theravada monastery in the forest tradition. In 2001, he was officially approved as Abbot of Wat Dhammasala by the Thai Council of Elders. For over two decades, he guided Dhammasala Forest Monastery with unwavering dedication, offering teachings, support, and a living example of the Buddha's path to countless visitors, practitioners, and monks.

Ajahn Khemasanto embodied the qualities the Buddha praised: simplicity, compassion, patient endurance, and profound insight. He touched many lives through his gentle guidance, his Dhamma talks, and his quiet presence that invited others to find peace amid life's impermanence.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who supported him in his final months—through visits, offerings, kind words, practical help, and the chanting of paritta. Your presence brought him comfort and joy, and your generosity allowed the community to care for him with dignity. Special thanks go to the monks and lay supporters who shared in the daily duties of tending to him; your devotion was a beautiful expression of gratitude to a teacher who gave so much.

In the spirit of the teachings, we reflect that all conditioned things are impermanent (anicca), subject to arising and passing away. Ajahn Khemasanto's life was a testament to this truth, and his peaceful passing reminds us to practice diligently while we have this precious human birth.

Funeral arrangements and memorial services will be announced shortly. In the coming days, we will hold chanting sessions, offer merit-making opportunities, and continue the daily practices at the monastery in his honor. All are welcome to join in dedicating merits for his peaceful journey onward.

May the Venerable Ajahn Khemasanto attain the supreme bliss of Nibbāna. May his wholesome kamma support him in all realms. May all beings share in the merits generated by his life and teachings.

Dear Dhamma Friends and Supporters of Dhammasala Forest Monastery,

With gratitude and warmth, I am writing to share that our beloved Abbot, Prha Khru Ajahn Khemasanto—the teacher who has so kindly guided us in the Dhamma for many years—is now spending his remaining days quietly resting in the monastery. Though his body has grown frail with age, his heart remains full of the peace and wisdom he has shared with all of us.

In the Buddha’s teachings, caring for parents, elders, and especially one’s spiritual teachers is praised as one of the highest forms of merit. The Buddha himself declared:

“Bhikkhus, whoever would care for me should care for the sick.”
(Vinaya Mahāvagga)

He taught that mother and father are the “first teachers” and worthy of the highest reverence, and this reverence naturally extends to those who have shown us the way to liberation. To support and honor one’s teacher in old age or illness is to repay an immeasurable debt of gratitude (kataññu) and to plant seeds of compassion that will bear fruit for lifetimes to come.

Ajahn Khemasanto has been a living example of the Dhamma—patient, kind, and steadfast—for all of us. Now, in his time of frailty, a simple visit from you would bring him great joy and comfort in his final months. Your presence, a few kind words, or even quietly chanting a sutta or paritta—these small acts carry profound blessing. They allow him to feel the love and gratitude of the community he has served so selflessly, and they give all of us the precious opportunity to practise generosity and compassion for one who shown all of us the same throughout our lives.

“Monks, these two people are hard to find in the world. Which two? The one who is first to do a kindness, and the one who is grateful for a kindness done and feels obligated to repay it. These two people are hard to find in the world.”
(Dullabhā Sutta AN 2:118)

Please feel welcome to visit the monastery whenever it suits you, even briefly. Your presence would brighten our Abbot’s day and remind him of the many lives he has touched with his gentle guidance. If you are able to bring a small offering of requisites for the monks or lend a hand with light tasks around the vihāra, that too would be most warmly appreciated and would help support the community during this time, as the daily care rests heavily on very few shoulders at present.

May this shared act of kindness bring peace to our dear teacher in his final months, strengthen the bonds of our Dhamma family and may it fill our own hearts with the warmth of the Dhamma.

On Saturday, September 20th, 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Dhammasala Forest Monastery, Bhante Cāgasampanno will give the first in a series of talks on the place of the Noble Eightfold Path as a foundation for all development within the Buddha's teachings.

This first talk will focus on how the interconnected nature of the Noble Eightfold Path is a foundation for the whole of the Buddha’s teachings. Far from being eight separate steps, the Path is a framework where morality, concentration, and discernment work together to support a more beneficial way of life.

Subsequent talks will focus on the individual aspects of the Noble Eightfold Path and their codependence on the other aspects, starting first with Right View (Sammā Diṭṭhī).

The talk will be preceded by a half hour of group meditation (5:00 to 5:30 PM) for those who are interested.

One of the most celebrated and most important of Buddhist festivals is Visakha Puja Day or “Vesak” celebrating 3 events; the birth, enlightenment, and the passing away of the Buddha. These events occurred when the full moon was in the Visakha (usually in May), which is why the day is called Visakha Puja, “Puja” meaning to pay respects.

End of Rains Retreat

This celebration marks the end of the three month rains retreat held by the monks at Dhammasala. The rains retreat is the traditional retreat during the rainy season lasting for three lunar months from July until October. Ajahn Nattagul will be returning from Florida to attend our end of rains retreat ceremony this year.

10:00 AM Receiving the five precepts and listening to chanting.
10:30 AM The monks will go on alms round.
11:00 AM Food offerings to the monks.
12:00 PM Everyone enjoys lunch. (Please bring a dish to pass.)
