💜 COMMUNITY RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT: Jayla’s Voice; NWFL; ECHOES OF ADDICTION

We’re honored to welcome Jayla’s Voice; Echoes of Addiction to our 5th Annual Fall Festival.

Founded in memory of Jayla Michelle, who was lost to fentanyl poisoning at just 21 years old, this organization is turning unimaginable grief into action, awareness, and hope.

Jayla’s Voice is dedicated to supporting families affected by addiction, raising awareness about the opioid crisis, and equipping communities with lifesaving resources.

Their initiatives include:

💜 Naloxone Education & Distribution
🎓 Echoes Unheard — supporting young people impacted by addiction with opportunities like sports registration, music lessons, tutoring, and scholarships
🫶 Mission 21 — focused on fentanyl awareness, overdose prevention, family safety, and early detection

Today, we honor and recognize the brave men and women who answer the call when our communities need them most. From law enforcement and firefighters to EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency personnel, we thank you for your courage, dedication, compassion, and commitment to saving lives.

We recognize the critical role first responders play in overdose prevention, emergency response, and connecting individuals and families to lifesaving resources.

Our team attended our very first Day of Caring kickoff meet and greet, where we had the opportunity to connect with fellow nonprofit organizations, schools, businesses, and community partners who will all come together on November 13th to make a difference across our community.

Jayla’s Voice; is proud to be part of this collective effort, bringing people together through service, collaboration, and a shared commitment to creating positive change. Our mission extends beyond prevention and awareness. It’s also about showing up, serving others, building meaningful partnerships, and making a difference wherever we can.

We’re excited to join United Way of West Florida’s Day of Caring and roll up our sleeves to give back to the community we love!

Ahead of , we were proud to host our Inaugural Stakeholders Forum, bringing together key players from across Northwest Florida to engage in meaningful conversations with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This gathering was about more than sharing information. It was about listening to the professionals working on the front lines, identifying gaps in our current systems, and exploring how we can work together to better serve individuals and families impacted by substance use.

Our breakout discussions focused on three critical areas:

🔹 01 | Perspectives from the Field
What are we seeing across our professional disciplines? Understanding the challenges, trends, and experiences shaping our communities.

🔹 02 | Identifying the Gaps
Where are services, resources, and support falling short? Recognizing unmet needs is the first step toward meaningful solutions.

🔹 03 | Continuum of Care
Where do transitions and referrals break down from prevention through recovery? Exploring opportunities to strengthen connections and ensure individuals and families do not fall through the cracks.

💬 Why does this matter?

Because prevention cannot happen in isolation. Intervention requires collaboration. Recovery requires continued support. And families deserve a connected network of resources that meets them where they are.

During Red Ribbon Week, let this be a reminder that our work cannot be limited to one week, one organization, or one conversation. It takes all of us working together to create lasting change.

Thank you to all who were still able to join us this past Thursday, special thanks to DEA Miami Division and Jake Bush along with UWF nursing students and Gateway Church for hosting us on such short notice due to Hurricane Isaias.

Reporting Period: October 19–25, 2026

⚠️ 100 SUSPECTED OVERDOSE INCIDENTS REPORTED DURING IDENTIFIED SPIKE PERIODS ACROSS 9 NORTH FLORIDA COUNTIES.

Northwest Florida continues to face a serious substance use and overdose crisis, and the latest surveillance information underscores the importance of prevention, awareness, and access to lifesaving resources.

📍 NORTHWEST FLORIDA

🔴 Escambia County — 17 suspected overdoses
🔴 Santa Rosa County — 12 suspected overdoses
🔴 Okaloosa County — 10 suspected overdoses
🔴 Bay County — 7 suspected overdoses

Northwest Florida subtotal: 46 suspected incidents across 4 counties.

📍 ADDITIONAL NORTH FLORIDA COUNTIES

🔴 Alachua County — 18 suspected overdoses
🔴 Marion County — 17 suspected overdoses
🔴 Leon County — 11 suspected overdoses
🔴 St. Johns County — 4 suspected overdoses
🔴 Levy County — 4 suspected overdoses

Combined total: 100 suspected incidents across 9 counties during their identified spike periods.

🕯️ FOUR REPORTED FATALITIES

Four suspected overdose fatalities were separately reported during the week in Leon, St. Johns, Alachua, and Escambia counties.

These losses remind us that behind every statistic is a human life, a family, and a community forever affected.

⚠️ WHAT IS AN OVERDOSE SPIKE?

An overdose spike occurs when suspected overdose incidents meet or exceed a county’s established threshold within a rolling 24-hour period.

These figures are preliminary and represent suspected incidents, not necessarily laboratory-confirmed overdoses. They should not be interpreted as complete weekly county totals.

💜 OUR MESSAGE TO NORTH FLORIDA

Carry naloxone. Recognize the signs of an overdose. Call 911 immediately when an overdose is suspected and administer naloxone without delay.

Check on your loved ones. Have the difficult conversations. Support people seeking treatment and recovery.

Prevention cannot wait until another life is lost.

We must continue strengthening collaboration between public health, public safety, healthcare providers, recovery organizations, and community advocates.

Because awareness is important, but action saves lives.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated supplies, volunteered their time, partnered with us, and helped ensure families received the support they needed.

We understand that not everyone could make it to the distribution sites. That is why we made deliveries directly to individuals and families who were unable to get there themselves. Our goal was to help meet people where they were and ensure they did not feel forgotten during this time of crisis.

As of Friday, October 23, Jayla’s Voice; has concluded our direct supply deliveries. However, our commitment to serving our community in this way does not end here. We will continue collaborating with, supporting, and volunteering alongside our community partners as recovery efforts continue and needs arise.

We are SO PROUD of what we have been able to accomplish! Every delivery, every conversation, every donated item, and every helping hand made a difference. This is what compassion in action means. And this is how we continue to honor Jayla’s life and legacy—by showing up for others, especially when life gets difficult.
