So thankful to be able to support this great work in connecting students with industry partners and opportunity!

This event continues to grow each year, with 75 business partners showing up to invest their time and expertise in our students. We were especially excited to see 6 students from Cotopaxi School District in attendance, expanding access and participation across our region.

For many sophomores, this is their first step into the world of work-based learning. Students gain valuable interview practice, build confidence, and begin forming connections with local employers. At the same time, businesses get the chance to meet and engage with potential future interns as students prepare for internship placements in their junior year.

Events like this don’t happen without an incredible amount of coordination, planning and commitment. I’m deeply appreciative of everyone who plays a role in making this annual experience possible!

This is what it looks like when a community comes together to create meaningful opportunities for students!

Fremont County - we want to hear from you!

The Fremont Multi-District Initiative (FMI) is a partnership between local school districts, higher education and industry working together to create more opportunities for students in our region. Through shared courses, career-connected learning, internships and workforce partnerships, FMI helps students explore career pathways and gain real-world experience while still in high school.

As we begin planning for the next three years, community input is incredibly important. Your perspective helps shape the future of opportunities for local students.

What a phenomenal day we had yesterday experiencing all the excitement and opportunities at Operation Sudden Impact for Canon City High School (CCHS) students!

Thank you to Fremont Economic Development for your partnership in planning this amazing event! This day was all about discovery and inspiration of careers in the Trades & Manufacturing industries.

Students had the opportunity to connect with local businesses, ask questions and experience hands-on demonstrations from a wide variety of trades and industries. From welding and construction to healthcare, public safety, and technology, students saw how the skills they are learning in high school and pathways that are offered can translate directly into real jobs and career opportunities here in Fremont County.

The energy was incredible as students explored vendor booths, learned about the training and education needed for different careers and began to picture their own pathway from high school to the workforce.

A huge thank you to all the businesses and partners who invested your time and expertise in our students. It’s remarkable to see how in a small community our employers are so committed to connecting education with the workforce and showing up for our students. Your support helps students see real possibilities for their future and builds the connections that truly matter.

Today our students experienced what it truly means to be an educator, from planning to classroom engagement!

The day began at the with small group discussions led by principals, teachers, instructional coaches, and district administrators. These conversations allowed students to connect with professionals across the education system and ask thoughtful questions about career paths, classroom experiences, and leadership roles.

Next, students dove into lesson planning, learning how to align activities with state standards while creating engaging and age appropriate content. They explored the different pathways to becoming a teacher within the district and gained valuable insight into what makes instruction effective.

In the afternoon, we visited Rocky Mountain Children's Discovery Center, where students worked in small groups with young children. Together, they made ice cream and used the experience as a teaching opportunity focusing on learning targets, sentence structure, and classroom management strategies. Students helped guide activities where children described the ice cream using adjectives, practiced writing complete sentences, and even created their own illustrated recipes.

From planning to teaching to inspiring the next generation, it was a sweet and meaningful day to wrap up our Summer Institutes!

Thank you to our business partners, Rocky Mountain Children’s Discovery Center and Canon City Schools Fremont RE-1, for hosting and providing such a valuable hands-on experience for our students!

Day 4! Today was an action-packed adventure into the world of trades and manufacturing!

We kicked off the day with an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Estes Rockets where students learned about everything from business structure and product design to production and shipping. After exploring the full lifecycle of a rocket, students built their own and headed to the launch site for a hands-on (and high-flying) experience!

Next stop: Dreamwood Homes, where homes are manufactured entirely on site. Students toured the facility and saw how framers, finishers, electricians, HVAC and sales professionals all play a vital role in bringing home designs to life and transporting them to their final destination.

We ended the day at FEDC’s incubator facility, home to Sentry Siren, I-Cubed Machining, Westward Machine & Tool, and more. Students learned how weather sirens are made, watched an aluminum pour to see part production up close and experienced the precision of CNC design by fabricating their own part.

From rockets to homebuilding to machining, students explored the many exciting and essential careers in the trades. Huge thanks to our incredible business partners for an unforgettable day!

Today’s healthcare & behavioral health institute was full of powerful learning and hands-on exploration!

We kicked off the day at Hildebrand Care Center with a panel of professionals from healthcare and behavioral health fields. Students explored how these career paths overlap and had the chance to speak one on one with experts to ask questions and learn more about their journeys.

After touring the facility, students jumped into a series of hands on challenges including a PPE relay that consisted of feeding a partner with distorted vision goggles, shaving a balloon, and a hand washing activity to see how germs spread. One of the most eye opening tasks had students attempt to put on an adult brief without using their hands, helping them understand some of the daily challenges residents face.

In the afternoon, students visited Rocky Mountain Behavioral Health where they toured the facilities and lab, participated in a mock substance abuse group and learned about cognitive behavioral therapy and the vital services the facility provides to our community.

Thank you to our incredible business partners for helping students experience the real world impact of these essential careers!

Students kicked off the day with an inspiring panel of industry experts, explored the world of ethical hacking, and discovered how coding is transforming the field of precision agriculture. After a behind the scenes tour of the Emergent Campus facility, students put their skills to the test by designing their own websites. Using a provided brand kit, they tapped into their creativity to bring unique digital concepts to life.

A huge thank you to Emergent Campus and our incredible business partners for helping make this immersive experience possible!

What a day of hands-on learning and career exploration!

We kicked off the morning at Big Cottonwood Creek with River Science, diving into biodiversity and getting up close with macroinvertebrates!

Students learned how to strategically build beaver dam-inspired structures to help manage water flow - teamwork, critical thinking, and environmental science all in action.

In the afternoon, we visited High on the Hill Farm where students learned about organic farming practices and the importance of sustainable agriculture. They even got their hands dirty planting Thai basil and potted their own plants to take home!

A successful day of learning, exploration, and connection to future careers. Huge thanks to our business partners at River Science and High on the Hill Farm for making today possible!
