Exploring Pelham’s Parks: Wolfs Lane Park 🌳 | Part 1

As we head into Labor Day weekend, we’re starting a new series highlighting some of Village of Pelham NY’s public parks and green spaces—and the many ways our community can enjoy them.

First up: the stretch of Wolfs Lane Park between Boulevard and Second Street East. This beautiful green space offers open lawn, mature trees, picnic tables and benches, along with community amenities including a Supernova play structure, a ping-pong table, and a bocce court. You’ll also find bike racks and recycling bins at both ends of this section of the park, making it easy to choose sustainable ways to get here and help keep the park clean.

We hope you’ll take some time to explore and enjoy this special part of the Village of Pelham—and stay tuned as we highlight more of our Village’s parks and public spaces!

Sustainable Habits for a New School Year:
Small choices—like packing reusable water bottles and lunch containers, avoiding single-use plastics, choosing recyclable school supplies, reusing what you already have, and walking, biking, or carpooling when possible—can help families save money while reducing waste and pollution. Every sustainable habit helps build a healthier future for our kids and our community! ♻️

Our department will be hosting four free compost giveaway events this fall, allowing County residents to receive nutrient-rich compost produced locally through the County’s CompostED Program.
Residents will also have the opportunity to purchase compost bins, rain barrels, and related accessories at reduced prices during the Sept. 30 event.

Upcoming Event Schedule:
• Wednesday, Sept. 16 – Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson | 4 to 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, Sept. 22 – Sprout Brook DEF Facility, Cortlandt | 4 to 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 30 – Household Material Recovery Facility, Valhalla | 4 to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 3 – Harrison Train Station, Harrison | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents interested in purchasing compost bins or rain barrels must place their orders in advance and pick them up on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla.

We invite you to join us for the Village of Pelham Council on the Arts' FREE Sunset Concert Series in Wolfs Lane Park (across from Cantina, Pelham Palace):

⏰Saturday, 8/22 at 7:00pm with Pageant Theory!

Pageant Theory is a dynamic group of five High School Juniors with a passion and grit for music. With a repertoire of rock and grunge classics, the band sees each gig as a way not only to inspire the crowd, but to deepen their own musical inspiration and enthusiasm.

Pack a dinner/dessert, blanket or lawn chairs, bug spray, bring your favorite people, and unwind with live music as the sun sets over the park. Whether you're meeting neighbors, letting the kids play with the help of DaniLee's free activities, or simply taking a break after a busy week, the Sunset Concert Series is the perfect way to enjoy a relaxing evening close to home.

Make it an easy night out by ordering takeout from one of Pelham's wonderful local restaurants before the show and support the small businesses that help make our downtown so vibrant.

The Village of Pelham Council on the Arts is proud to present this free series as part of its mission to bring arts, culture, and neighbors together in our community. We hope to see you there!

♻️🎨 What if our discarded plastic could become public art?

The Pelham Art Center and Girl Scouts are collecting specific types of discarded plastic to transform into a new public art project—and we love seeing creativity and sustainability come together in this way. In the meantime, we’ve partnered with the Girl Scouts on a Plastic Drive to collect specific types of plastic that will be transformed into our upcoming public art project.

Stop by the VoP Sustainability Advisory Board / Climate Smart Communities Task Force table between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to learn about Pelham’s new Liberty Tree Initiative and discover how planting native trees and plants can create healthier yards and a more resilient Pelham.

We’re excited to be joined by Ecopel, so it’s a great opportunity to meet local volunteers and find out how you can get involved in hands-on environmental stewardship activities in the Pelhams.

🌱 While supplies last, we’ll be giving away FREE native plants and seed packets, and you can also enter a drawing to win a native Black Cherry tree seedling!

♻️ Bring your food scraps for composting and your unwanted textiles for recycling—collection bins will be available at the market.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Pelham through 8:00 PM tomorrow. While a Flood Watch doesn't mean flooding is occurring, it does mean conditions are favorable for flooding to develop. Now is a good time to make sure you're receiving alerts from a trusted emergency management agency.

Here are a few trusted resources to help you stay informed during severe weather:

🌩️ National Weather Service (NWS) weather alerts
🏠 The FEMA App, which provides real-time weather alerts, preparedness information, and emergency resources

A few reminders:
✔️ Stay informed by monitoring weather alerts.
✔️ Clear leaves and debris from storm drains near your property to help rainwater flow freely.
✔️ Secure or bring inside lightweight outdoor furniture and other loose items that could be blown by strong winds.
✔️ Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown®.

Being informed and prepared is one of the simplest ways to help protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors.
