Internship opportunity:

African American Community Cultural and Educational Society (AACCES) is looking for an intern for the East Pasco Black Heritage Tour.

The intern will collate research to be used in tour design. AACCES has pre-identified sites to be visited along the bus tour. Primary sources and interpretive materials will be sorted and inventoried so they can provide background for authoring the tour.

AACCES (African American Community, Cultural & Educational Society) was pleased to host a large group of forum conference participants for a self-guided walking tour of East Pasco on May 29, 2026.

We are grateful that so many longtime East Pasco residents joined us at Kurtzman Park, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, the MLK Youth Center, and the former Matrix Building to share their personal stories and memories of East Pasco’s history.

An excerpt from the Vernacular Architecture Forum 2026 Conference | Bus Tours webpage:
“…crossing into Pasco’s commercial downtown and passing over rail corridors that long structured patterns of movement and separation in the region. At Kurtzman Park, we will learn about a historically African American community that built and sustained itself despite profound material inequities, and how the park and its surrounding spaces were created through collective labor and advocacy. A few buildings and open spaces still bear witness to that legacy of resilience.”
