Today was a beautiful reminder of exactly why I serve on the board of House to Home.
One of our clients helped me with some outdoor yard work today. It was hard work, and it took us about three hours, but he did an amazing job. When we finished, I took him back to the shelter so he could get a shower and some clean clothes.
I knew he wore a size 13 shoe, and thankfully we had recently received several pairs in that size. After his shower, I brought them out and let him choose the pair he wanted. As he looked through them, he smiled and said he felt like “a kid in a candy store.” The boots he had been wearing were nearly worn out, and seeing the joy on his face as he picked out a new pair was priceless.
As we talked, he shared how much House to Home means to him. Most of the family members who loved him have passed away, and he told me that when he walks through our doors, he feels like he has family again. Those words touched my heart.
Moments like this are why House to Home exists and why we are working so hard to build our new facility. We want to provide more than just basic necessities—we want to provide hope, support, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
Because Everyone Matters. 🐝
