I have started a Walmart wishlist as I know some folks are unsure of what specific items we need. I will add to this throughout the day!

It’s time for this year’s Shoebox Project.

I started this project when I was 10 after seeing people living under the bridge in Parkersburg, and every year since, we’ve filled shoeboxes with winter essentials for the homeless community. This year it feels like a late start, but we’re moving forward, per usual.

If you want to help, here are the most needed items:
• Gloves
• toboggans (we already have a great start on these thanks to Ashley Brewster.)
• Socks
• Hand warmers (great start here too, thanks Ashley!)
• Deodorant
• Toothbrush/toothpaste
• Small snacks
• Lip balm
• Travel-size hygiene items
We also typically do at least one sweet snack, one salty snack, a drink, and uncrustables for each box. (Normally from Sams.)

You can donate items, drop off shoeboxes, or contribute through PayPal if that’s easier:

PayPal: [email protected]

Everything goes directly toward supplies and assembling the boxes we deliver to House to Home Day Shelter.

Thank you to everyone who continues to show up for this project.

Also- if you told me that you’d like to physically help this year, please let me know in a message on this page- not my personal, so I can keep better track of them. Thanks!

Hello all, we are rapidly approaching crunch time! I’ve had folks ask what items we are going to need so I thought I’d provide a standard list of the basics we put in each box:
-gloves
-socks
-toboggan
-uncrustable
-sweet snack
-salty snack
-Gatorade/water
This year we would like to incorporate toothpaste/toothbrushes as a staple. Anything else we purchase or have purchased in the past comes from extra monetary donations (flashlights and batteries, hand warmers, candy, gum, hygiene products, etc.)

Thank you all for your continued support! You can donate via PayPal at [email protected]

Accidentally deleted my most recent post!

HI FRIENDS it’s that time again!!

A bit on the story of the shoebox project, courtesy of Amber Holbert.❤️

Skylar's Shoebox Project for the House to Home..... many of you know the story behind this project but some of you may not...in December 2010 Skylar was shocked to learn that many people were living under the 5th street bridge in Parkersburg. Her inquisitive self could not stop with questions after viewing the tents while crossing the bridge. As a lot of 10 year olds would be, she was very confused at the fact that not everyone lived in a warm house and had warm clothes and a refrigerator of food whenever they wanted. After processing this news for about a day she set out to develop a plan to do something to help. Her ideas were abundant and her persistence relentless. After many ideas she found the perfect one.... every person under that bridge should be given socks, gloves and hats and.... based on her knowledge of a "boxed lunch" given at CCMC ER where I worked... a salty treat, sweet treat, sandwich and beverage should be provided as well!! The big ? From me...What to put it in.???? She immediately produced a shoebox. And so it began. Late in the first week of Dec at the busiest time of the year I said to my friend and co worker, I need your help😄! We had a goal to fill 50 shoeboxes with the items Skylar wanted to include. We asked for donations and boy did we get them! The first year was such a success and such a blessing for my girl that I knew it would become something she would do again. Over the last 12 years we have delivered 1300 (as of Dec 23, 2020)❤️ shoeboxes with all of the original items Skylar wanted to include and then some! Her 1st date of delivery to House to Home was Dec 23, 2010 and has remained Dec 23 since. It has never been possible without the help of many people! This year will be no exception. We are at it again with a goal of no less than 100 this year. Many of you have asked about donating and we welcome any and all. Items we always include Socks, Gloves and toboggans, chips and sweets (individually wrapped), and water, pop or juice. We have often had other great donations like ponchos, toothbrushes, scarves, and hand warmers for instance.
If any one is interested in donating to this great event please comment here or message Skylar or I. We will gladly pick up your donation!!!
We greatly appreciate those of you who have supported the project over the years! We do have a PayPal ([email protected]) 💙
