Accidentally deleted my most recent post!
HI FRIENDS it’s that time again!!
A bit on the story of the shoebox project, courtesy of Amber Holbert.❤️
Skylar's Shoebox Project for the House to Home..... many of you know the story behind this project but some of you may not...in December 2010 Skylar was shocked to learn that many people were living under the 5th street bridge in Parkersburg. Her inquisitive self could not stop with questions after viewing the tents while crossing the bridge. As a lot of 10 year olds would be, she was very confused at the fact that not everyone lived in a warm house and had warm clothes and a refrigerator of food whenever they wanted. After processing this news for about a day she set out to develop a plan to do something to help. Her ideas were abundant and her persistence relentless. After many ideas she found the perfect one.... every person under that bridge should be given socks, gloves and hats and.... based on her knowledge of a "boxed lunch" given at CCMC ER where I worked... a salty treat, sweet treat, sandwich and beverage should be provided as well!! The big ? From me...What to put it in.???? She immediately produced a shoebox. And so it began. Late in the first week of Dec at the busiest time of the year I said to my friend and co worker, I need your help😄! We had a goal to fill 50 shoeboxes with the items Skylar wanted to include. We asked for donations and boy did we get them! The first year was such a success and such a blessing for my girl that I knew it would become something she would do again. Over the last 12 years we have delivered 1300 (as of Dec 23, 2020)❤️ shoeboxes with all of the original items Skylar wanted to include and then some! Her 1st date of delivery to House to Home was Dec 23, 2010 and has remained Dec 23 since. It has never been possible without the help of many people! This year will be no exception. We are at it again with a goal of no less than 100 this year. Many of you have asked about donating and we welcome any and all. Items we always include Socks, Gloves and toboggans, chips and sweets (individually wrapped), and water, pop or juice. We have often had other great donations like ponchos, toothbrushes, scarves, and hand warmers for instance.
If any one is interested in donating to this great event please comment here or message Skylar or I. We will gladly pick up your donation!!!
We greatly appreciate those of you who have supported the project over the years! We do have a PayPal ([email protected]) 💙
