WV PTA Supports the Petition on House Bill 2755

West Virginia PTA took an extraordinary step in advocating for children and public education by filing an amicus curiae brief with the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia in support of the West Virginia Board of Education’s challenge to House Bill 2755. Representing the collective voice of our PTA members statewide, WV PTA advocated to protect the independence and effective governance of public education and to help ensure that decisions affecting West Virginia’s schools remain focused on the best interests of students.

Through this effort, WV PTA demonstrated that PTA advocacy extends beyond legislation and local school issues. When the future governance of public education was at stake, WV PTA brought the voices of parents, families, and educators directly before the state’s highest court. The case remains active, with oral arguments scheduled for September 22, 2026, and WV PTA continues to stand firmly behind its commitment to strong, fair, effective, and nonpartisan public education for every child.

OR
📈 Increase your total membership by 10% compared to your previous September membership total.

It was a good day on Capitol Hill as the very strong Senate version of the Kids Online Safety Act passed out of committee unanimously. We are hoping for a vote on the Senate floor when they're back in session in September! Thank you to all PTA members that have supported this important legislation to protect our children.

URGE CONGRESS TO PROTECT CHILDREN AND YOUTH ONLINE!

A vote on critical digital safety legislation is happening tomorrow, and we need your help!

Last Congress, the Senate passed the Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act that packaged together the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0) and the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), two critical pieces of legislation that PTA has championed over several years now to promote a positive and safe online experience for youth and families. Just two days after our association’s annual Hill Day this past March, the Senate unanimously passed COPPA 2.0, and it is now time to pass the Senate version of KOSA this Congress as well.

Together, these bills would establish strong safeguards and provide parents and guardians with critical tools, including:
• Requiring that internet companies establish the highest privacy as the default setting for young social media users,
• Banning targeted advertising toward children and teens,
• Strengthening mechanisms for reporting dangerous or discriminatory conduct online, and
• Providing parents and guardians with the ability to erase their child’s personal data online.

Our association believes these two critical pieces of legislation must be included in any related digital safety negotiations. Take action TODAY and urge the U.S. Senate to mark up and pass the Kids Online Safety Act (S. 1748) to ensure that all children and youth are safe online! CLICK BELOW to take action today!
