“If you don’t have money you don’t go to school”-Anjè. As we educate pregnant women at Espwa we have multiple obstacles, one of them is illiteracy. At one point the teacher was drawing illustrations with chalk to help the women learn. We want more for these women. One day we would like to have access to Starlink so we can provide educational videos. The issue is not lack of desire to learn or not caring about their babies..it is a lack of access to resources. Join us as we work to change this in our community! 🇭🇹

Thank you for partnering with us to bring hope to hundreds of families over the years! The needs are immense and overwhelming in Haiti and it can feel like we aren’t making a difference. But with your help we have touched many lives and will continue to do so! 🇭🇹

We wish we had more details and some photos but that is not how it works in rural Haiti. Our team doesn’t have a vehicle so our country director has to pay for a ride or walk to get to mama and baby. However, we consider the birth of this baby boy a gift and a cause for celebration! Did you know many parents in our area don’t name their babies for an extended period of time due to prevalence of infant deaths. Can you imagine having to protect your heart this way because you know the odds are stacked against you and your child? 🇭🇹

See the previous posts for more context. These situations are common in Haiti for many pregnant women. You are in medical crisis and have to pay to get medical care. You don’t have a car so you have to pay for a ride. You didn’t get an education so you don’t have a good job so you don’t have the money to pay for either. You have no money, no power and no options. So when the public hospital sends you home you go home, even when your baby’s life is still in danger.
R represents so many Haitian women. This is why we exist, this is why we have persisted despite the unrest and why we must grow in our impact.

Scroll ➡️to the end for more understanding. This is life in much of Haiti. As Espwa, we believe everyone is created in the image of God and has inherent worth and value. Including this mom and her baby. Please pray with us as we wait to hear how she is doing. Haiti has the highest maternal mortality rate in the Western hemisphere. At least 10 times the rate in the US. This is why Espwa exists. Every woman deserves access to medical care.

Urgent prayer request: please pray with us for M and her baby. Every woman deserves access to healthcare! Thankfully we have a small emergency fund that can pay for a ride to the hospital and help pay for the visit but because of the unrest her life is in danger.
