Camp Fire Collaborative Striving to develop a healthy and thriving region through collaborative planning and community action

🎬 A Powerful Story of What Comes After

We’re excited to share the Bay Area premiere of Stray Embers, a new documentary filmed over five years in Paradise following the Camp Fire.

Rather than focusing on the disaster itself, the film explores the long road afterward — resilience, relationships, grief, humor, exhaustion, caregiving, and the complicated question of what it means to stay and rebuild in a place forever changed.

For many in our community, these stories will feel deeply familiar.

🥗 Good Food, Good People, Good Reminders ☀️

This past Wednesday, we had a great time at Dinner with a Doc at the Paradise Stronger's Equilibrium Wellness Center — enjoying amazing healthy food, a welcoming group of neighbors and friends, and a helpful (and timely!) talk about protecting our skin.

One message came through loud and clear:
🧴 Wear the sunscreen. Every day. Seriously. 😎

We’re grateful for community partners like Paradise Stronger who continue creating fun, informative, and healthy spaces for people to gather, learn, and connect.

The next Dinner with a Doc is coming in August… see you there? 🌲

Help Shape a Safer, Better (Broadband) Connected, and More Resilient Butte County

Butte County is developing three important plans to guide decisions on emergency preparedness, wildfire safety, evacuation routes, broadband connectivity, and community resilience — and community input is needed.

These plans include:
• Emergency Operations Plan
• Roadside Fuels Reduction Plan
• Foothills Connectivity Action Plan

Public meetings are being held in Chico, Magalia, and Oroville, and residents of our foothill and unincorporated communities are especially encouraged to participate and share their perspectives.

Your input can help identify local needs, improve communication systems, strengthen emergency planning, and support future funding opportunities for our communities.

Learn more, view meeting dates, and take the survey here:

Please help spread the word to neighbors, friends, and community members who may want to participate. Together, we can help make our communities stronger and safer for the future.

🤝Sharing Paradise’s Recovery Story on a National Stage 💛

This past week, the Camp Fire Collaborative was honored to present at the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Conference in Reno alongside Aaron Singer from Paradise Stronger and Theresa Azevedo from United Way of Northern California.

We were grateful for a strong turnout and thoughtful discussions on "How do organizations build enough trust to stay at the table long enough to create impact?"

Our community has learned hard lessons through recovery, but we’ve also built something special — partnerships that span sectors, organizations that work together rather than apart, and people who continue to show up for one another years after disaster struck.

We’re proud to share what Paradise and the Ridge have taught us about collaboration, trust, and long-term recovery — and grateful to continue learning from others doing this work nationwide. 🌲

Researchers from the University at Albany are seeking renters from Butte or Sonoma County who were impacted by wildfire to participate in a study focused on understanding recovery after disaster.

If you were renting at the time of a wildfire and your home was damaged or destroyed, your voice can help others navigate recovery in the future. Participants will:

• Attend a brief virtual Zoom orientation
• Share photos that reflect their recovery journey
• Participate in an interview connected to those photos

Participants will receive:
✔ A $50 gift card
✔ Copies of their photos to keep

This is an opportunity to reflect, share, and contribute to improving how communities support wildfire survivors moving forward.

Please see the flyer for eligibility details and participation information.

🏡💛 Habitat for Humanity of Butte County Women’s Build

This morning, we visited Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build—with more than 40 volunteers on site, working on one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes, along with sheds and fencing for future families.

It is more than the work —it is the people. Happy, committed souls giving up vacation time, family time, and personal time to help advance recovery for three families in the Camp Fire burn scar. Hands in the dirt. Walls going up. Hope is taking shape.

Thank you to Habitat for Humanity, every volunteer on site, and the organizations and individuals working behind the scenes to make these homes possible.

Join us for a meaningful moment in our community.

The Grand Opening and Dedication of Hope Plaza is more than an event—it’s a place of remembrance, gratitude, and connection. Created to honor the lives lost in the 2018 Camp Fire, recognize the courage of first responders, and reflect the strength and resilience of the Ridge, Hope Plaza stands as a symbol of who we are—and who we continue to become together. This special ceremony marks the completion of a long-awaited memorial and gathering space, built by and for the community.

Let’s come together:
• To remember
• To honor
• To stand in hope for the future
