Nine Former Mayors Oppose Gerrymandered Districts
Nine former Mayors of Chico today stated their support for the Referendum against the Gerrymandering of Supervisorial districts, joining elected Officials all over Butte County to repeal the scheme.
The former Mayors represent 80 years of council service. They are in agreement that three politicians Gerrymandering districts - to benefit themselves and supporters politically at the expense of others all over Butte County, including the 110,000 residents of the Chico area -needs to be put on hold by a People's Referendum.
Butte County voted 55% (Proposition 11) to stop politicians from drawing the lines for their own districts but three Butte County Supervisors bragged that they drew the lines and ignored the lines drawn by the Independent nonpartisan Redistricting Partners firm.
The mayors encourage everyone who cares about fair elections to sign a referendum petition. The campaign office is at 1431 Park Ave., and open 12-5 Monday - Friday. There will be numerous drive-through-and-sign opportunities throughout the county. More information at NoOnBCGerrymandering.com. The deadline for submitting 8,900 valid signatures is January 13.
