🙋 WHAT CAN ONE VOLUNTEER REALLY ACCOMPLISH?

A lot more than you might think.

One volunteer can…

📦 Unload rescued food.

🥫 Sort donations.

🍎 Stock fresh produce.

🛒 Help a neighbor shop.

🚚 Pick up food from one of our partners.

❤️ Make someone feel welcomed.

And when you put dozens of those “one volunteers” together?

Something pretty amazing happens.

A COMMUNITY feeds a COMMUNITY.

The Caring Cupboard simply could not do what we do without volunteers. They are the hands, feet, muscles, smiles and hearts behind this mission.

HUNGER DOESN'T HAVE A “LOOK.” 👀

It might be the child sitting beside yours at school.

The senior living down the street.

The veteran you see at the grocery store.

The parent working two jobs.

The family that had an unexpected medical bill.

The person who has always been able to make ends meet—until suddenly they couldn't.

Food insecurity isn't a character flaw.

It's often a math problem.

Rent + utilities + childcare + transportation + healthcare + groceries.

And sometimes, the numbers simply don't work.

So during Hunger Action Month, we're asking our community to replace assumptions with something much more powerful:

🧡 COMPASSION.

You never know what someone else is carrying.

But together, we can make sure they don't have to carry hunger alone.

🛒 WE'RE A FOOD PANTRY…BUT WE'RE ALSO SO MUCH MORE.

If you've never visited The Caring Cupboard, you might picture shelves of canned goods and boxes being handed through a doorway.

That's not quite us. 😊

We believe our neighbors deserve more than food.

They deserve CHOICE.

They deserve DIGNITY.

They deserve COMPASSION.

And they deserve HOPE.

Our neighbors shop for foods their households will actually use, including fresh produce, dairy, proteins, pantry staples and other items available to us.

But our vision goes beyond groceries.

Through partnerships and community connections, we want The Caring Cupboard to be a place where neighbors can find resources, relationships and opportunities that help strengthen their lives.

Our mission begins with food.

Our vision is a stronger and healthier community.

🤔 WHAT DOES “FOOD INSECURITY” ACTUALLY MEAN?

Hunger is the physical feeling of needing food.

Food insecurity is the uncertainty of knowing whether you'll have enough food tomorrow, next week or at the end of the month.

It can look like…

🍽️ Skipping a meal so your children can eat.

🛒 Putting groceries back at the checkout because the total is too high.

💊 Choosing between medication and food.

🏠 Paying the rent and wondering what's left for groceries.

🥫 Stretching a few meals several days longer than they were intended to last.

Food insecurity doesn't always look the way we expect it to.

It can affect children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities and families where one—or even multiple—adults are working.

And it happens right here in our community.

That's why The Caring Cupboard exists.

Not to judge.

Not to question someone's worthiness.

But to provide food, dignity, compassion and HOPE.

Hunger lives here. But so does hope.

All month long, The Caring Cupboard will be shining a light on food insecurity in our community—and, more importantly, the incredible power we ALL have to do something about it.

Because fighting hunger isn't somebody else's job.

It's ours.

You can give. You can volunteer. You can donate food. You can organize a food drive. You can become a community partner. You can share a post. You can simply tell someone who needs help that The Caring Cupboard is here.

Big action. Small action. It ALL matters.

Throughout September, we'll introduce you to the people, programs, volunteers, donors and community partners who make our mission possible. We'll also talk honestly about what food insecurity looks like right here in our community.

🥑🎤 DINNER, DONATIONS &… DOLLY?! 🎤🥑

Clear your Monday night plans because The Caring Cupboard is taking over Snitz Creek Brewery Annville!

Join us Monday, August 31 from 4–9 PM for a Dine & Donate benefiting The Caring Cupboard. Come hungry, enjoy some great food and drinks, and help us fight food insecurity right here in our community. ❤️

🎟️ RAFFLE BASKETS!
We’ll have some exciting raffle baskets up for grabs throughout the evening. Take a chance, win something fun, and help raise even more support for our neighbors!

🥫 FOOD DRIVE!
Snitz Creek is also hosting a food drive August 31 through September 6. Bring non-perishable food items all week to help stock the shelves at our Palmyra and Jonestown locations.

And then things may get a little… interesting. 👀

🎤 Karaoke starts at 7 PM, and there’s a completely unconfirmed, highly suspicious rumor that The Caring Cupboard’s own Al the Avocado 🥑 may be preparing a Dolly Parton tribute.

Yes. You read that correctly.

🏗️ WE’RE RAISING THE ROOF… LITERALLY! 🏠🙌

Earlier this week, something pretty incredible happened at The Caring Cupboard’s Beyond Hunger, Building Hope project:

The roof was raised into place! 🎉

And while we promise not to make too many construction puns… things are definitely looking up! 😄

What started as a vision for a better way to serve our neighbors is becoming very real. And with every beam, board, and nail, we’re getting closer to opening a space designed to help us fight hunger with even greater dignity, compassion, and hope.

But there’s one more thing we’d really like to raise: the remaining funds needed to finish this project.

Our goal is simple—and incredibly important: open the doors to our new home debt-free.

Why does that matter? Because every dollar we don’t have to spend servicing debt is a dollar that can remain focused on what matters most: food, programs, outreach, and caring for our neighbors who need us.

So as we celebrate this exciting milestone, we’re asking our community to help us Raise the Roof AND close the gap! 💚

Today, we honor the extraordinary legacy of Dolly Parton—a woman whose impact reaches far beyond the music, movies, and unmistakable voice that made her an American icon.

Dolly has long understood something we believe deeply: every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, dream, and thrive—and no child should have to do any of those things on an empty stomach.

Throughout her life, Dolly has used her success not simply to entertain, but to lift others. Her generosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to children and families remind us that true greatness isn't measured by fame or fortune. It's measured by what we do with what we've been given to make life better for someone else.

Her advocacy for children, education, literacy, and stronger communities has inspired millions to believe that where a child begins in life should never determine how far they can go.

At The Caring Cupboard, that message resonates deeply with our mission. We see the incredible potential in every child who walks through our doors. And we know that when children have access to nutritious food, dignity, compassion, and hope, we aren't simply feeding them today—we're helping give them a stronger tomorrow.

Dolly once famously dreamed of doing something meaningful enough that people might remember her when she was gone.

She has done far more than that.

Her songs will be remembered. Her remarkable career will be celebrated. But perhaps her greatest legacy will live in the countless children whose lives were made a little brighter because she chose to care.

We’re excited to welcome our wonderful partners from back to The Caring Cupboard on Wednesday, August 26, from 4:00–6:00 PM!

Penn State Health nurses will be providing FREE health screenings, including:

💙 Cholesterol

And with plenty of summer sunshine still ahead, they’ll also be sharing important Sun Safety information and providing FREE SUNSCREEN while supplies last! ☀️🧴

We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with Penn State Health and for the compassion, expertise, and generosity their team continues to bring to our neighbors. Partnerships like this allow The Caring Cupboard to care for the whole person—connecting our community not only with nutritious food, but also with resources that support healthier lives.
