Fall Migration! Not too much in Florida yet, but the birds are starting to move.
The first bird surge of the season has brought much higher than expected bird activity Monday night. An estimated 232,000,000 birds are on the move, tracked by Doppler Radar moving South/Soutwest at 18 mph around an altitude of 2,100 feet. This data is according to BirdCast shows the highest concentration from the Great Lakes heading south across the Mississippi River Valley!

24 people attended the MCAS Birds & Breakfast this morning at Emerson Preserve. Starting at 7 AM with temperatures at 78°, we walked the mostly shady trails, seeing 27 species of birds. Highlights were several families of Red-bellied Woodpeckers, with several juveniles. Also great spot of a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron by Gary, along the trail.
Following our walk, most of us enjoyed breakfast at Popi’s Restaurant.

Special thanks to Christie Leamon for keeping our eBird list. Photos taken randomly from our eBird list.
