A sunny and humid morning greeted 21 birders on Wednesday, November 4, for our Manatee County Audubon bird walk at Bean Point on Anna Maria Island, led by Bill Pelletier and Kitty O’Neil. Located at the absolute northwest edge of Manatee County, Bean Point offers our best chance for uncommon shorebirds. It did not disappoint!
The birds put on quite a show! Of the 36 species tallied, highlights included close views of both Piping and Snowy Plovers, an impressive flock of approximately 200 Red Knots, and a Forster’s Tern. During our walk to and from the point we saw plenty overhead including a Peregrine Falcon, a Cooper's Hawk, and a remarkable count of 74 Magnificent Frigatebirds!

Many thanks to Bill and Kitty for leading the walk and to everyone who joined us for a wonderful morning of birding along the beautiful shores of Anna Maria Island.

MAS meets SAS at the
Celery Fields!
This Saturday, Nov. 7, 4 p.m.
(Note new earlier time)

We will meet with Sarasota Audubon at the Sarasota Audubon Nature Center, 999 Center Road, Sarasota, for a tour of the Quads!

Meet at the Nature Center so we can meet and mingle, then move to the Quads for a tour.

Snacks will be involved -- don't miss it. 4 - 6 p.m. All are welcome!

Guided Bird Walk will be held at Felts Preserve this Saturday, November 7, from 8 to 10 AM, led by Doryce Wheeler and Becky Adlam.
Meet in the parking area next to the Chickee Hut by 8:00 am. Parking is on the street outside of the park.

Felts Preserve is located at 4600 24th Ave E., Palmetto. This is a great time of year to see our Painted and Indigo Buntings.
This is open to the community - all are welcome!

Felts Audubon Preserve is looking great thanks to our wonderful volunteers who came out Saturday morning for our monthly Conservation Workday! 🌿🐦

One of the photos really highlights why we can’t stand the invasive Caesarweed! A big thank-you to everyone who works so hard to protect the native plants and helps keep Felts thriving.

Manatee Audubon Bird Walk will be held this Wednesday, November 4, at Bean Point, led by Bill Pelletier and Kitty O'Neil.

Nestled at the northern tip of Anna Maria Island, Bayfront Park offers a scenic and serene backdrop for a Manatee Audubon guided bird walk out to Bean Point.

Meet at Bayfront Park, 316 N Bay Blvd, Anna Maria, near the bathrooms, ready to start at 8 AM. All are welcome!

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for our bird walk at Emerson Park. We had 33 birders visit the mounds and tower. The weather was wonderful, unfortunately the birds were not very cooperative. We were able to see/hear 22 species today. https://ebird.org/checklist/S404987476
