Not every year hands you an easy list of things to be grateful for.

Some years take more than they give. The prophet Habakkuk knew that kind of year. He looked at failed crops, empty fields, and bare stalls, and he named every loss out loud. Then he said something almost impossible:

"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior." - Habakkuk 3:18

Habakkuk's joy was never anchored in the harvest. It was anchored in the God of the harvest. That is the kind of gratitude Scripture actually models: not the kind that needs a good year to work, but the kind that survives a hard one.

Before there was light, there was a word.

"And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light." - Genesis 1:3

This is how Scripture begins, not with a description, but with God speaking creation into being. The words in your hands are not simply information. They carry the same voice that spoke galaxies into existence, still active, still capable of bringing light to whatever is dark.

As Global Bible Month begins, that is worth remembering. The Word that made everything is the same Word we are working to bring to every corner of the earth, including the places still waiting to hear it in a language they can call their own. God is still speaking, and we get to help carry that voice to the Last Mile.

Something big is coming.

Last year, during Month of the Bible, YouVersion's Bible App passed 1 billion downloads, a number that still feels almost impossible to hold in your head. This year, Biblica is joining in the celebration again, and the momentum isn't slowing down.

November means a whole month centered on God's Word: celebrations happening across the US and around the world, all pointing back to Scripture and to the time when we will see God's Word finally accessible to every person, even those still waiting in the Last Mile.

We'll share more soon. For now, start praying for this movement, and get ready to give your focus to God's Word alongside believers everywhere.

We don't reach the Last Mile alone.

Every story this month, a study Bible in Kumasi, a translation team in Central Africa, Scripture reaching soldiers in Ukraine, carries a name you won't see on the byline: the local churches and partners already there, long before Biblica arrives.

Paul isn't minimizing suffering by comparing it to glory. He's putting it in proper scale, next to something vastly larger.

"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." - Romans 8:18

This is the same Paul who catalogued beatings, shipwrecks, and imprisonment elsewhere in his letters. This isn't a comparison offered from a position of comfort. It's a conviction hard-won through actual suffering.

That doesn't erase the weight of present pain. It simply insists that pain isn't the whole story, and that a glory is coming which will make even our hardest sufferings look, in retrospect, like a fair trade.

Long before it carried Bibles, the Silk Road carried empires across Eurasia. Today, the countries along that route are some of the last still waiting for access to Scripture.

Young leaders here began sharing a new, updated translation of the Bible with traditional churches that had stayed distant for years. What had been a wall preventing two Christian groups from working together, became a bridge.

Pastors from the area (located in Eastern Europe) later asked for Bibles of their own. "After the [new version of the] Bible, young people started to learn the Bible," one leader said. "It was a big blessing." The same pastor admits that he’s never had his own copy of this coveted new version. Translated in their heart language in a modern style that reads easily, it’s so popular that he always gives his copy away to someone who needs it more than he does.

This is Last Mile First™ along the Silk Road: leaders who give away their own Bibles again and again because they can't bear for anyone to be without one.

"People say our language is primitive. That it can't grow, can't progress."

That's what one translator kept hearing about the very language she's spent years helping put into writing for the very first time.

Her people were once so feared by neighboring tribes that whole branches splintered off rather than admit where they came from. Generations later, kids won't speak the language of their ancestors. They'd rather sound modern than sound like home.

She's spent months tracking down elders, chasing words before they disappear with the generation that still remembers them.

"This language is rich," she says. "I want our children to feel proud to use it."

This is Last Mile First™: giving a people taught to hide who they are the words to find themselves again, in Scripture.

Every one of us is either walking into a hard season, walking through one, or walking out of one.

Our newest blog post, "When the Trial Doesn't Feel Like a Gift," looks at what Scripture says about the trials we can't yet see the end of: Job refined like gold, Joseph unable to see the good God was working, Nehemiah building through fifty-two days of threats, Ruth simply doing the next faithful thing.

"He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold." - Job 23:10

None of them could see the ending while they were living the middle. That's usually where the rest of us are standing too.

"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." - Hebrews 10:36

This verse doesn't separate perseverance from the promise. It ties the two together, one leading directly into the other.

That's a harder truth than we sometimes want to hear. The waiting itself is part of the assignment, not an obstacle standing between us and the promise.

Whatever promise you're standing on today, this verse is a reminder that persevering isn't a delay before the promise. It's the path to it.
