Chris' favorite CarePortal story started as a simple request for a car battery became something so much more.

A mom in Aurora needed a new battery so she could continue getting her 5-year-old to therapy and doctor appointments. An anonymous donor provided the funds, and a local church volunteer stepped in to help meet the need.

But when the volunteer connected with the family, she discovered they shared something deeper: both were survivors of domestic violence. That connection opened the door to a relationship built on understanding, encouragement, and practical support.

From helping with laundry and providing a listening ear to giving the mom a journal and reminding her she wasn't alone, this volunteer became someone the mom could reach out to on hard days. Her caseworker has seen a significant improvement in how she is doing—and it all started with a simple request for a car battery.

This is the power of community. A practical need met can become a relationship that reminds a family: you are not alone!

Beautiful Redemption had a meaningful milestone as we had the opportunity to present an overview of CarePortal to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners—highlighting how local churches, agencies, and community partners are working together to support children and families in crisis.

We also had the privilege of recognizing Douglas County as our Agency of the Year for their outstanding partnership and commitment to serving vulnerable families. Michelle Dossey, Special Programs Manager for Douglas Human Services, shared about the incredible impact of this collaboration and the difference it’s making throughout the county.

We’re grateful for leaders who champion this work and for the churches and community partners who continue to step up. We’re excited to see what’s ahead for Douglas County! 💙

Today is a great day because… 38,000 children have now been served across Colorado! 🎉💙

This milestone wouldn’t be possible without everyone who has answered a CarePortal request, prayed for this work, given financially, volunteered, and found a way to support children and families in their communities.

Thank you for being part of the impact! We truly couldn’t do this without you.

When Steve was asked what his most memorable CarePortal story was, he chose this one.

A young woman who had aged out of foster care was preparing to become a mom without the support system many of us take for granted. So, her community decided to show up for her.

With local caseworkers helping behind the scenes, a community member organized a baby shower to celebrate this young mom and her new baby. About 15 people from the community came together, bringing gifts, encouragement, and support as she stepped into motherhood.

Even the space for the celebration was donated, making it possible to create a special day centered entirely around her.

For Steve, this story captures what CarePortal is all about: people seeing a need and deciding to do something about it. It’s about more than meeting a material need—it’s about making sure people who have experienced foster care know they are seen, valued, and supported.

Myth: You have to become a foster parent to help vulnerable children.

Reality: Helping vulnerable children doesn’t always mean opening your home. Sometimes, meeting a practical need—like providing diapers, a crib, or help with rent—can give a family the support they need to stay together.

You don’t have to become a foster parent to make an impact. You just have to be willing to step in when a family needs support.

Through CarePortal, communities can respond to real needs and help vulnerable children and families right where they are.

The start of the school year often means an increase in requests for school supplies, backpacks, shoes, and clothing.

As these verified needs are shared through CarePortal, we encourage responders to watch for opportunities to support children and families in your community during the back-to-school season.
