💡 FAQ: What is a Community Responder?

Community Responders are individuals who can respond to requests through the CarePortal platform, even if they aren’t part of an approved Church Response Team or are responding to a need outside their church’s local area.

Here’s how it works: When a Community Responder offers support, the response is sent to a Connecting Church near the family. These churches are trained and approved by local experts to take the lead in coordinating direct engagement between the family and the resources being offered.

This helps connect more people who want to help with families who need support, while ensuring local churches help coordinate the connection.

When Gail first connected with a family through a CarePortal request, she never could have known where that connection would lead.

A woman walked into Walmart to purchase a few gift cards for CarePortal requests. She usually handles gift cards on her own, but this time she decided to stop at customer service.

As she looked down at her phone to check her list, she quietly said, “Pulpit Rock Church.”

The Walmart employee looked up.

“Are these CarePortal?”

She said yes.

The employee then shared that her caseworker, Rachel, had recently connected her with a gift card from Pulpit Rock through CarePortal so she could purchase clothes for her daughter.

Then she added, “I just regained custody of my daughter.”

What started as an ordinary trip to Walmart became a powerful reminder that meeting a practical need can be part of a much bigger story.
